Is this at an air show, a camera perspective trick, or CGI? I don't think it's safe to fly aircraft that close. I remember listening to F-18 pilots discuss some of the Top Gun movie scenes, and how they would never fly planes that close to each other.

And yeah, I'm not a pilot or anything so I'd love to hear if I'm just wrong or not lol.

It's from the last Zhuhai Airshow. The image was likely taken using a telephoto lens, which make objects appear closer to each other than they are in reality, and it also makes objects that are further away appear bigger than they should.

usually close formation is around 3 feet
formation flying, two or more aircraft traveling and maneuvering together in a , synchronized, predetermined manner. In a tight formation, such as is typically seen at an air show, aircraft may fly less than three feet (one metre) apart and must move in complete harmony, as if they are joined together.
