Why not put these fighter jets in Guangdong province? The range of the J-10C is not enough. Previously, the brigade only had the J-10C, not the J-20.

I'm looking at the map below, and the three airbases in Guangdong already have J-10C, J-11A and J-16s assigned. Plus those airbases look really close to the coast.

In Southern Theatre Command, Guilin looks like next airbase where the existing J-aircraft don't have the range to reach Taiwan.

See the map below with the locations of air units in China. It's at the bottom of the post.

J10 has combat radius of 1,240km or 2,600km with mid-air refueling according to AVIC on J10CE. The map below with radius of 1,240km show the reach of J10. Also no to forget that any aircraft from remote inland airfield can always land on a forward airfield near the cosat for refuel or even re-armed.

J20's combat radius is even much larger than J10, so.....

It's still 1000 km to Taiwan, so a J-10 would be pushing it, if it was fully loaded or needed a long time on station without refueling.

In comparison, a J-20 could operate with drop tanks as standard with minimal performance penalty. I get a distance of about 800km until they are empty, so they could be dropped whilst the J-20 is still over the Chinese mainland opposite Taiwan, leaving the J-20 with a full internal fuel load and at least 2 hours on station.
