In case of guys at Dingxin they train on J-20, J-16, and J-10C.

According to a report from 2019, Chen Liu had flown 1500 hours by 2018. That means he flew 500 hours between 2018 and now and depending on what time of the year the cutoff is at, he could’ve flown an average of 200-166 hours a
I was listening to an interview where a retired general who commanded the Oklahoma Air National Guard who suggested that should resources not be a factor, a pilot really ought to be flying 3 times a week in order to adequately maintain currency and tactical proficiency. Considering Dingxin is where theater-wide tactics are developed and trained so that they can become strategy/doctrine for front line units, I imagine the optempo the general suggested is very much attainable at Dingxin where flight crew get all the air time they need where some front line units might not have such luxury. Doing some rough calculations: 3x one hour sorties a week, multiply that by 4.5 weeks a month, 12 months a year... and we arrive at 162 hours a year. I'd say our maths just about add up, especially since I'm sure Chen Liu would see occasions where he flies sorties longer than an hour :)

but Chen couldn't just go to dingxin directly after he graduated from the fly academy, being a pilot at plaaf training center, I'd imagine he has to be top at his previous unit, and he might even have to? pass some tests/ exams/ compitations to enter dingxin, so his time in dingxin should be even more limited, i don't know how much longer we could trace him at dingxin, but he is definitely on TV since 2019, so he latest time start at dingxin might be somewhere in the mid of 2018

He started flying J-20 in 2018 but he flew the J-16 for a while longer. He actually started career as a J-8II pilot so it is understandable that his flight hours were low during that phase of his career since 3rd gen fighters have lower flight time.

Still, Chen is lucky to leap frog three generations of fighters during his career. Some poor pilots were stuck flying the J-7 for twenty years.

He must be a damn good pilot! With determination!

I did not understand, I just guessed

Guys ... you need to understand the PLAAF serial number system. To make a guess there are already more than 75 based on a single number is like guessing the number of kids a pilot has based on the colour of its hair! It's impossible.

78233 means in fact 78x3x as standing for this particular unit - the 172nd Air Brigade at the PLAAF Cangzhou Flight Training Base and the xx = 23 means simply it is aircraft number 23. But this does not mean it is the 23rd J-20 within that unit nor the 23rd overall built. It is just a bort-number.

Otherwise I estimate, that there are about 36 built within the first batch equipping the two FTTB units at Dingxin and Cangzhou and the 9th Air Brigade at Wuhu. How many from the second batch are built I don't know.
