What's the matter with the WS-15?! Why couldn't they get it done and onto the J-20A instead of dragging their feet?!

In fact - WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FVCK IS WRONG WITH AECC?! First they couldn't even get the CJ-1000A ready, just as the US is already threatening to cut off the LEAP engine supply for the C919 - And now this?

Yes, what the fvck??

If this gets dragged on, I suppose the J-36 and J-XDS will enter service with WS-10C. Might as well forget about WS-15 or even VCE/ACE-based WS-XX!

That seems weird, WS-15 should be ready since 2023. If true, then we might be far overestimating China's aeroengine maturity. From specs wise 1850K TIT do not seem that advanced (4th gen engines like M88, EJ-200 and later F-110 variants is pushing 1800K. F-119 which 40 year old technology by now has a TIT of 1950K) especially compared to F-135's 2260K TIT and yet China is still having issue getting it into service after over 30 years of development. Personally, I think this is terrible news if confirmed and cast doubt on the future of Chinese military aviation especially with next generation VCE and to an extent the progress on WS-19(Which is meant to use the same technology from WS-15).

PS: God forbid the VTOL project which might also be affected because WS-10 just ain't gonna cut it

I have the feeling that the production scale is not yet there for WS-15. And it's not the quality or certificatations problem, probably it will still take one to few years to ramp up I guess. One year production of J-20 is 200 engines needed.

It's been 2 years since LRIP, at this point "production scale is not there yet" isn't a valid excuse anymore. WS-20 LRIP was announced at approximately the same time and see how many Y-20Bs are flying around. With how things are if spec of 1850K TIT(World class in 1990s, at best average right now for 4th gen engines) is true for the final production variant of WS-15, with how long the project has stalled we might actually have a case of “服役即落后”.
