I take it that you think counter sunk rivets are for aesthetics and does not compromise the integrity of the plane?

Apparently it doesn't prevent it to go straight up from the start see it yourself this amazing feat. Not even F22 can do it !

Using countersunk rivets where they are not supposed to be used would actually affect the integrity of the plane.

"Poor" is a bad choice of words. It suggests it was shoddy.

I think it goes with what the PLAAF is thinking. They certainly could do what it takes if they wanted to because they have the money. Superficially I don't like how they paint their aircraft. We might have to wait until the Pakistanis get J-10s to see a good paint job on a J-10. Look how clean their JF-17s look.

saw a posting on pakdef about Pakistan getting J-10 this year. Not too surprising I suppose with the entire Pakistan/Indian situation getting really serious now. Although the part that I don't get is China allowing non-Chinese suppliers of radar going on J-10, I personally don't think that will happen, but we will see. Frankly, with Pakistani economy tanking and only China offering soft loans, China should be holding all the cards here.

There are plenty of posters on Chinese forums saying the samething, too. These are the same people who correlate prettiness with engineering -- if it doesn't look good, it isn't well engineered; if rivets can be seen, it isn't well engineered.

They are also the ones who conclude the 094 isn't the 094 because the hump is ugly, then come up with a bunch of "evidences" in attempt to support themselves. But at the end of the day it all comes down to this: they think the 094 is ugly.

Just ignore them as a bunch of morons.

Just come back from the pub, and asked a bunch of plane enthusiasts, who fly their own and maintain their own private planes. Ones a aircraft crash investigator who rebuilt a written off crashed agricultural top dresser,now used for parachuting, who suggested it would create drag.

In this instance I think it would be like comparing apples with oranges. They are both designed and built for different mission statements
