Russian TV accuses US of spying on Russia, China

Although this is nothing new in world military, it is interesting to see what kind of reaction or policy or gestures or messages in response to this allegation.

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AP) — A documentary on Russian state television has accused the U.S. of using an air base in Kyrgyzstan to spy on Russia and China — an allegation a spokesman for the base flatly denied on Monday.

The film, aired Sunday on the Rossiya TV channel, showed a building it said was used for electronic surveillance and identified a woman it said worked in the U.S. Embassy as a CIA agent.

Moscow has long been suspicious of the American presence in what it views as its traditional sphere of influence, and there are even some indications it may have pushed to have the Central Asian base closed.

Kyrgyzstan has ordered the United States to leave the facility by August, dashing plans to use it as thousands more troops prepare to pour into Afghanistan. The announcement of the closure came shortly after Russia pledged to give Kyrgyzstan more than $2 billion in aid and loans. Russia also has an air base in the former Soviet republic.

Of the accusations, Maj. Damien Pickart, a spokesman for the Manas base said: "It is all lies, it is false. There wasn't a single point that I read about the narrative of the documentary that was accurate."

The documentary showed a complex of windowless buildings at the base that its said required special passes to enter. The program said one building on the base housed an elaborate system of "radio-electronic reconnaissance."

"At Manas, a station has been built that controls all of Central Asia and parts of China and Siberia," the program said.

Pickart said the buildings are used as dormitories for troops posted long-term at the base. Reporters who visited the base in February said the buildings appeared to be used exclusively as sleeping quarters.

"Any media or government officials that would like to come to the base and see for themselves, go into those buildings that they showed, we will gladly invite them out," Pickart said.

The program also shows a woman identified as Vicki Lynn Rundquist, whom it says is first secretary of the political division at the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan and an undercover CIA agent. It says she and a local contact scrawled chalk marks on lampposts to agree on meeting times for covert encounters.

The U.S. Embassy declined to comment on the report, saying it was not at liberty to reveal details about its personnel.

A Kyrgyz government spokesman said he could not comment on the documentary.

The film was made by Russian journalist Arkady Mamontov, who came to prominence in 2006 after producing footage purporting to show British diplomats exchanging classified information with local agents through a device disguised as a rock on a street in Moscow.

A year later, Mamontov claimed in another documentary that the CIA was funding Russian opposition groups with the aim of replicating the popular uprisings in Serbia, Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan.

Pickart said Mamontov has not visited the base.

Associated Press writers Jim Heintz in Moscow and Peter Leonard in Almaty, Kazakhstan, contributed to this report.

Go into a category (Army, Air force etc), and on the the left hand side under the photo selections there's a "new thread" button..

This aircraft's engine has a blue exhaust. Remember the picture of the J-11 engine testbed showing the blue and orange exhausts? So, which engine has the blue exhaust, the WS-10A or AL-31FN?

Ah, I remember that photo of the J-11 with a Ws-10a and AL-31F engines. But that was only the prototype WS-10a in 2002, it is possible that the engine exhaust is now indistinguishable. I wonder if the airflow and power level of the engine would affect the color. The WS-10A testbed was taking off, not doing an in-flight turn. I suppose the experts would know better than I.

Well, at least we know that the 2 engine types have different exhaust hues when they are at the same power level during the taking off.

Obviously the hue changes as the power level changes. Question is does it go from pitch-black to orange and stops there. Or it goes, from there, all the way to a pink or a blue hue.

Don't want to really drag on this discussion but, actually, using the words "cancellation" or "destructive" can be confusing since the energy states of the individual wave components remain the same during the interference whether it be destructive or constructive. This shouldn't be confused with the dissipation of EM wave energy as it interact with a medium, like for example the atmosphere or even a solid object.

No energy is actually lost during an EM waves' destructive interference as the same wave components would, in another instant of time, be involved in a constructive interference.

I think I have enough of this discussion even if I can't get the point across.

No energy is lost, due to the conservation of energy, but waves can indeed be completely destroyed by having the exact frequency, traveling in the same medium 180 degrees out of phase. That it occurs in vacuum doesn't prevent it from happening. The heat will likely simply be released as photons, the same means by which the sun endows the earth with energy, including heat energy, through a vacuum of space. That is, the heat generated will be radiative, not conductive or convective as we're normally used to. So yes, wave destruction can occur, and it certainly will heat up while doing so.

Hi guys,

My first post here. I have been a military junkie all my life and have been following Sinodefence for years. Just decided to join the conservation.

Some time ago, I found a you-tube video about a J-10 acrobatic flight posted on this forum (I apologize for forgetting the guy's name). A link is here

It was AMAZING! When I showed it to my colleagues at work, they all suspected that it was actually a radio-controlled model, not an actual plane. When I did a search on the web, many people also say it was a model. However, I haven't found anyone in this forum who have questioned the validity of the video. Can someone enlighten me with whether the plane in the video is an actual J-10 and whether J-10 is capable of the kind of amazing agiliy shown in the video?

Thanks
