I don't think that there are air-vents ... IMO these black "lines" are just formation lights (slime lights) as on most Western types and the late J-11 too.

Really? From what I've heard so far it's an ESA vent. There was a picture hanging around on the net comparing the noses of the J-10B and F-16E.
Shows the similarities in the "vents".

But on the flipside; formation lights? From what I can see, the lines don't look like it has any light bulbs.

I think You speak of post 211 in this tread with the comparison ... and YES, the F-16E/E also have these black lines, but they are no "vents" but a black underline of these "slime lights".

Ah I know what you speak of now.

So slime lights are used for formation flying.

Hmm... but is there such thing as a radar vent on fighter planes? And why is it that some planes have slime lights and some don't? I searched pics of F-16 noses on the net and compared them to F-16E ones. For some reason the F-16 ones don't have those lines/slime lights

Only the F-16E/F have them ...


Besides that ... any comments (not ready and correct by now) ??

The nose section keeps on changing? Now the nose section doesn't droop anymore; and the aircraft looks more aerodynamic and prettier too. IMO, this looks more workable but it does not match exactly the prototypes we've seen so far.

variation is every thing the F16 Block 60 AKA F16E/F are not American but an UAE variant, this is an impotent note because although the are members of the same family of aircraft under the skin there systems are radically different. use of alternitive radar, sighting systems addition of conformal tanks....
the changes too the J10 may be signs of alterations too the aircrafts roles and are definite signs of continuing development.

Understandable for an aircraft as matured as the F-16, but it's hard to imagine the J-10B prototypes going through that much changes when it's still very new in development.

the Development map does date back too the seventies. besides some times problems doe pop up that you can't first in the first batch these changes could have been commented on in the first and second runs but held off until the third batch, things like improved stealth redistribution of payload weight not to mention final choices on radar and electro optics.
