India will only get its first 18 Rafale in fly away condition in 2015, and that is if all goes to plan, we all know Indian purchases are delayed and delayed again

by 2015 Pakistan Air Force will be fielding the JF17 Block II, and quite a few number of them at that

next year Pac Kamra will produce around 20 JF17s and 2014 around 25, before reaching its maximum capacity of 30 aircraft per year in 2015

also by 2015 Pakistan will field 60 F16 MLU and 36 F16 C/D Block 52+, so the odds are not bad, in 2015 our biggest threat will still be the Indian Sukhoi 30 MKI

there is no question Rafale is a fine aircraft but war isnt all about better equipment, if we can do more with what we have and get more out of what we know there is no reason why Pakistan should be worried by the Indian purchase

by the time India fields Rafale in large enough numbers J10B will certainly be on the cards for PAF, so whats the fuss?

I still believe the biggest issue for Pakistan is indeed not Rafale but Su30 MKI, it is a headache every air chief must have faced

however, Pakistan airforce being the effiicient and effective fighting force that it is has already developed a stratedgy to defeat the Sukhoi threat

Pakistan has been aquiring much information about Flankers, and few years ago flew PAF against PLAAF J11s with the chance to fly them too

here are some pics from that execise

you maybe wondering why is this relavent, well because it gives PAF a inside look into the kind of air war they will be fighting with IAF, things like these make difference, and even could turn the tide in war, its all about preparation and tatics, information and knowledge, knowing ur strenghts and weakness and well as ur enemys

there was talk in the Indian military that the reason they didnt go for Typhoon is because Saudi Arabia operates them, which means Pakistan would have access to information regarding the Typhoon, this tells us alot

funny thing is, Qatar, Kuwait and UAE are also planning for Rafale, if that happens u can be sure Pakistan will also have access to them and India will be back to sqaure one

Any chance PLAAF will get to pit against PAF F16C/D or maybe even gain access to the plane?

Any chance PLAAF will get to pit against PAF F16C/D or maybe even gain access to the plane?

China already sent Su27 to Turkey in Anatolian Eagle 2010, reports suggest that F16s were flown by Turkey but officals say that only F4 took part in the exercise, but no one really knows the truth

on route PLAAF refueled in Pakistan and Iran, on the way back only Iran

this was a significant milestone for China-Turkish relations, as it was the first time a Nato members exposed China to NATO aerial combat information

US was not happy about NATO combat tactics being expose to China in such a way, this is also very rare for Iran to open its airspace to a foreign airforce, i dont ever remember Iran ever allowing Pakistan even such a move they are vert strict

its exercises like this that are the way forward for PLAAF, having a look at the fighter is not much value and Pakistan is not mastered BVR combat, they are experts in WVR but we lack behind in BVR but that is now changing very fast

in a similar exercise few years ago Pakistan sent its F16s to Turkey, the Israeli Air Force had sent in its formidable and very capable F15 Eagles, but the entire time Israel never engaged with Pakistan, they kept far away from Pakistani pilots and refused to exercise with us and never give us any information on combat manouvers

later a Turkish offical told Pakistanis that Israel is very weary of Pakistani pilots and did not want to give away any of its tatics and stratedgys, for this reason they had orders not to engage with their Pakistani-counterparts

but then again who can blame them, memorys of Sqn Ldr Saif ul Azam's parcipitation in the 1967 war seem him fly with Royal Jordanian Air Force and achieve a incredible 4 kills on the Israeli air force, what makes this feat more amazing is that he himself in a Jordanian Hunter shot down the Mach 2 Mirage III Fighter which in 1967 became the worlds most popular fighter aircraft for its record on Arab fighter jets, he was docorated by airforces, if Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq

One thing I hate about Chinese military movies is that they use way too much computer graphics. To my knowledge, a lot of these movies are partly produced by the military. So why not just use real planes for the movie? I mean, Top Gun and Iron Eagle both were almost filed completely with real planes.

On top of that, the CG looks really fake, making the whole movie look cheap. It actually hurts my head watching this movie.

There is a fine difference between "produced by the military", and put some service unit's name in the acknowledgment list. Top Gun is the former, almost all Chinese military movie are the later.

And there is this "better film crap and make money, than film good that may not cover the expense" rule; and not to mention any true sensitive stuff may be cut at the last minute by the autorities when the investors have already invested. And finally we have millions of movie audiences who are not military true fans but eager to see Chinese soldiers blow shit up for a change (than normal day-to-day hollywood counterpart).

Paramount was charged $80,000 per hours for using a single tomcat. You can imagine the cost if using real fighter jet for movies.....
