This is the 2nd or 3rd time that Haifa Port has been successfully hit by drones/missiles from Iraq.

Maybe this is a weak area of Israeli defense coverage. Unlike Eilat which sits on the edge of the country towards where Houthi drones arrive from, Haifa is actually deep inside Israeli territory.

Meaning: the Iraqi drones/missiles are crossing the border and flying successfully over Israeli territory, all the way to the target at Haifa.

Perhaps they are testing the weaknesses of Israel's anti-aircraft and ballistic defense system. Not making an attack is bad but making an attack and having it be considered a failure because Israel successfully defended itself through its defense systems is even worse. If an attack comes, it will likely be coordinated with Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon and with the Houthis before carrying out the direct attack on Iran itself.

The US already claims that the attack is imminent:

Seems like Iran’s attack is kicking off (for real this time). NOTAM issued in Iran, drones flying over iraq (per Twitter videos, could be fake). I’m assuming they’re going to give to time for the drones to fly before launch ballistic missiles so that they arrive near the same time, in order to overwhelm air defences and radar systems.

American stratotanker above iraq, likely refueling US airforce assets to shoot down drones and cruise missiles. Also, all planes landed in Israel.
That tanker flies daily over Iraq, coming from Saudi Arabia's joint AFB with USAF @ al-Kharj and USAF AFB @ Al-Udeid in Qatar. It's involved in operations in Syria, refuelling for both USAF and RCAF aircraft incoming from the Mediterranean theatre (Sigonella airbase in Sicily, Italy, and Chania airbase in Crete, Greece).

Most of these drones will probably be shot down in Iraq and Syria before reaching northern Israel.

But Iran is also launching cruise missiles and ballistic missiles against Israel so this will absolutely escalate since those will reach Israel.

I don't think it would have if it was just drones.
