So many sides in this conflict, it's difficult to keep track of the acronyms! o_O

The SDF are the Kurds, and the SAA is the Syrian Army? Do you think we'll see fighting between Russian-backed Syrian Army and the Turks? I'm thinking Russia must have some agreement in place with the Turks or else Turkey would not have made its move. The fact that we haven't seen any condemnation of this from Russia is a strong indicator of this.
SAA is Syrian Arab Army. SDF is a mix of Arabs, Asyrian and Kurds, primarily Kurdish fighters.

Russia did not condemn but did voice disapproval, even the Syrian government's voice was very mild "defend territory with all legal means" instead of "drive out invaders". So yes, there is some understanding (of Turkish move) among every party except the Kurds. That is the common ground I said.

The Turks may want to insert their proxy in the post civil war Syrian government, so they are supporting the FSF remnant and trying to replace Kurds with FSA at the border. But forcefully doing so in the future by directly fighting SAA would be suicidal.

By invading Syria, it has already lost support from the west. By fighting SAA on Syrian soil, Turkey will become enemy of the world. Yesterday, China has called Turkey to pull out without condemnation in the same line of Russia, the last of the UNSC P5 to make a statement. I see that as the line drawn by all powers.

here comes the press release
China calls on Turkey to stop military operations in Syria

China calls on Turkey to halt military operations and return to the right track of seeking political solutions, a foreign ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

"China always opposes the use of force in international relations, and maintains that all parties should earnestly abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as well as basic norms governing international relations, and should solve problems through political and diplomatic means within the framework of international law," spokesman Geng Shuang said at a press briefing.

Geng made the remarks when asked to comment on Turkey's military operations in northeast Syria, which started on Oct. 9 and have already led to casualties.

"Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity should be respected and protected," he said.

The anti-terrorism situation in Syria is still grim, and the relevant military operations could lead to the fleeing of terrorists and the resurgence of the Islamic State, according to Geng.

"China urges Turkey to shoulder its responsibility and jointly combat terrorism with the international community," Geng said.

continue to #5921,

I think Turkey's move is silently "approved" by the Russian/Syrian/Iran side. There is a unspoken rule of great power engagement seen in Afghanistan, Vietnam and Korea where the big powers do not directly engage one another, but use proxies. US and Russia are all in Syria, they won't face off one another, so one has to leave. US will not leave on the demand of Syria which will be too humiliating. NATO member Turkey's invasion in the name of fighting YPG would give and has given Trump a good excuse to leave.

) about an alleged coordination between Turks, Russia and USA in the move against Kurds, in short no incidents, US leaving just like that

well I add I have been suspicious for some time, as in

noticed this, ehm, coincidence:

"The United States and Turkey over the summer had established a so-called “security mechanism,” designed to address Turkish concerns about the SDF and prevent an attack. ... As part of that security deal, the SDF had complied with U.S. requests to pull back its own defensive fortifications — leaving them vulnerable when Turkey attacked."

A rare piece of good news. The Syrian conflict is finally ending after so many years. The only thing I wonder is where the Kurds are going? Seems strange that they accepted this so meekly. I think we might see some more complications from them, but without any outside support and facing both Russia and Turkey, they are unlikely to amount to anything.
