Mostly good overview of Iran's space program to date (by Uzi Rubin, father of many Israeli missile systems) if anyone is interested.

One key quote: "All of the militaries in the West are blinding themselves to the fact that non-nuclear missiles, with precision-capabilities, are war-winning weapons." [48.35]

Also commented on the Arash-24 apogee kick-motor (used to insert satellites into orbit): "Very sophisticated and advanced, the cutting-edge in missile and space-launch technology".

No comment on the new TVC Salman solid motor, but that is equally advanced and cutting-edge.

Overall: Iran is mastering each key technology to build latent ICBM capability.

During recent Iranian war-games in the Persian Gulf, involving the use of anti-ship ballistic missiles, US bases in the Persian Gulf region (UAE, Qatar and Kuwait) detected an unexpected ballistic missile launch from Iran in their direction and ordered troops to seek shelter in bunkers. It soon transpired that the missiles were part of the war-games to test ASBMs in the Persian Gulf, and were obviously not aimed at the US bases in those three countries.

Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles in Persian Gulf, US Troops [in Kuwait/Qatar/UAE bases] Told to Stay in Bunkers

US military forces deployed to the Persian Gulf kingdoms were reportedly asked to stay in bunkers as Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) fired ballistic missiles during normal military drills off the strategic Hormuz Strait.

Citing her “sources” and those of the CNN, a reporter for the BBC wrote in a post on her official page on Tuesday that US troops based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Qatar had been briefly put on “high alert” due to “concerns” over Iran’s missile activities.

Other sources identified the facilities as al-Dhafra base in the UAE and al-Udeid air base in Qatar, saying the American troops deployed there had been asked to stay in bunkers.

US forces in Qatar and the UAE “went on high alert early Tuesday and were asked to stay in bunkers, due to intelligence indicators showing an Iranian ballistic missile had been fired and possibly headed their way, US defense officials tell CNN,” a Twitter user said, indicating that the US forces had misread the trajectory of Iranian missiles.

The reported high-alert notice came as Iran’s IRGC started the final phase of large-scale aerial and naval drills, codenamed Payambar-e A’zam (The Great Prophet) 14, involving the elite force’s Aerospace Division and Navy.

The maneuvers were held in the general area of the Hormozgan Province, west of the strategic Hormuz Strait, and the Persian Gulf.

Would have to have one. But since you want to play. The Navy so far seems to think they can repair her. Considering that the Chinese 75 also had a major fire and just launched as well as the way the Russians managed to keep Kuznetov afloat despite fires crashes and more, I don’t think they won’t be able to pull it off.
Any way what was meant in jest appears to have ruffledfeathers. The heart of the Exorcise mentioned was the return of the Barge Done up as a Mock Nimitz class complete with fake F/A18 and some old F5. Iran once claimed this was a “Movie prop” but was quickly used as a target for the IRGC and navy. The Missiles launched were targeted to the barge.

No worries; my tone in writing was the same as yours.

Uninformed on the PLAN, I see. The first 075 had a major fire? LOL It has a styrofoam box fire that caused smoke which was washed off in hours... If that's major, what words are left to describe what happened to the Bonnie Dick? LOL And the ship went on sea trials yesterday. Let's see how long the USN takes to bring Bonnie back into service... if it happens at all.

By the way, I'm not seeing anything that says that it will be repaired; I see many articles saying that the damage is so severe that they don't know if they could justify the costs.

In the mid-2000s (2003-2005), Iran just managed to master a copy of the North Korean (Nodong) copies of Scud C with Shahab-3. The missile was large (17 tons weight; 17m length), liquid-fuelled (long preparation times to fuel and prepare), unguided (CEP >1km - very limited value in a conflict) and 1000-1200km range.

Now 15 years later in 2020, Iran has revealed an indigenously designed tactical (quasi-)ballistic missile that is: compact and light (7 tons weight; 11m length), able to be mass produced cost-effectively, solid-fuelled, precision-guided (<10m CEP), detachable warhead and 1400km range (500kg warhead, Mach 12 re-entry speed and Mach 5 terminal speed): Qasem Soleimani missile. The missile is the latest iteration of the solid-fuel, precision-guided Fateh class.

Officials have said the range can be extended to 1800km. Likely by incorporating the cutting-edge advanced technologies of the Raad-500 (carbon filament). Then we will see the culmination of the next generation of Iranian ballistic missile technologies.

Iran confirmed that there will be at least two more space launches this Iranian year (by March 20 2021 - likely in February 2021):
  1. The first launch of the new Zoljaneh solid-fuel SLV (IRGC - upgraded version of Qased SLV which was used to place Noor military satellite into LEO in April 2020; liquid fuel first stage will be replaced by solid fuel first stage); and
  2. Another Simorgh SLV launch (Iranian Space Agency - possibly carrying Pars-1 15m imaging sat into LEO; last Simorgh SLV launch was February 2020 which failed as the satellite failed to reach the necessary speed to enter into orbit).
Defense Minister Amir Hatami also confirmed plans to launch satellites >100kg into orbits higher than 400km with the Simorgh and Zoljaneh SLVs (Simorgh SLV is said to be able to carry 250kg satellite into LEO; Zoljaneh's capability is unknown).

Hatami also confirmed future plans to use new SLVs to carry heavier payloads into higher orbits:
  • The Sarir SLV will carry payloads of 300-1000kg (within the next 2-3 years);
  • The Soroush-1 and Soroush-2 SLVs will carry payloads to a 36,000km high-altitude orbit (within the next 5-6 years).

The first Islamic country in the world to launch a satellite into orbit (and 9th country overall) is continuing to grow its footprint in space.
