Based at the location of the smart tablet the pouches clearly located in the center of the vest like this

Us soldiers also wear bulky double mag pouches

for the most part, the double mag-pouch came about during the GWoT, it has its purposes. it frees up more space for other things on the soldier's vest, for example med kit as you provided in the pictures. it also doubles the amount of ammo you carry on a patrol, giving it an edge during sustained firefights. and my fav thing about them is that you can rest your rifle on the pouches during patrol.

looking at the pics though I am not sure those guys would be too happy laying in prone with those vests, or crawling.

Yeah, that was going to be my comment. I am not a fan of double stacked mag pouches precisely because of the aforementioned issues it presents to going prone and crawling. It also makes it hard to see your feet, which can be surprisingly annoying when walking cross country.

I prefer to have additional magazines in belt pouches and have single stack up front most of the time.

If you are expecting to be riding around in a vehicle shooting out of a window most of the time, or sitting in a punker etc, that’s when double stacks really shines.

As such I would not say one is categorically better than the other, just different tools for different roles, so it’s better to have the option at least.

Based on this photo, there are several things that stood out. First of all, good luck to their knees. Secondly, the gear they are wearing is different from the ones seen in the past (at least from what I remember). On the soldiers' helmets, there are flashlights, that are similar to the Switch mpls, attached to them and are definitely different from the helmet flashlights we have seen before. Plus, they are using comms devices and plate carriers that look different from the ones we have seen in the past, and they are wearing gloves that are different from the hard knuckle ones. Third of all, their rifles are decked out with aftermarket uppers, magnifiers, a PEQ, and red dots. What is even more interesting is that the soldier next to the main guy has a rarely seen suppressed QBZ 95. Finally, that soldier's holster looks similar to the Kydex ones, which are different from the PAP ones with locks. Looks like the Chinese are really trying to up their infantry and SOF's gear.
