They did something similar after their clash with Pakistan, when they claimed they shot-down a PAF F-16 and the strike was a huge success, and when the pictures were made public, it showed they couldn't even hit the broad side of a barn from the inside
To be fair the failed strike may not have much to do with the IAF piloting skills. EO guidance needs proper adjustments at high altitude, let’s just leave it at that.
But they did shoot down a helicopter. No one can take that away from them.
One characteristic of Indian media reports is that one lie is used to cover up another lie.
The whole point of writing that scenario was to simply illustrate that India by itself is significant military power, and that maritime geography complicates victory over it a lot. It also illustrated(on a particular example), why PLAN is developing in a particular direction, and which problems it solves by doing that.
Why? Well, because this forum recently really got deep into India bashing mode. Which is annoying, - it's supposed to be about discussions, not another theater of war b/n netizens.
Adding 3rd countries beyond mentioning them on a basic level is simply too difficult and time-consuming. Even then, it's an interesting example in that it nicely illustrates two simple facts: one is that Pakistan is incredibly powerful asset in such a war, - even when it's on the other side of the Indian ocean. Another one is that there is yet another, purely naval reason why India is afraid of being surrounded.
It may seem illogical for a nation of Indian geography - but the fact is, it is vulnerable.
This is also perhaps the reason why they're quite nervous about this particular aspect of Sino-Pakistani cooperation.

But India has not significantly pushed for cooperation and alliance with certain western countries for many decades. Only with an ideologically right government had they made significant shifts. One can say that they started to change after 2010.
There are many countries closer to China who have aligned deeply in some ways with some western powers ( Thailand, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore etc) long before India. Relatively speaking, India's overtures and change seems very drawn out and late. The only likely explanation is that India, unlike the small countries I mentioned, envisioned (still envisions) a future where India is a strategic competitor and rival to the western powers. India wants to be a superpower ( this isn't an allegation but a fact).
@Xsizor Bro they are active in courting us here in ASEAN, but as the saying goes "Show me the money". In diplomatic relationship if you're an outside power coming in you need to show something your capable of and for us Asian, India really doesn't connect, maybe for Myanmar and Singapore but for the rest of the region, Zero. China is lucky that Pakistan is there to assist her in South Asia and with her purse able to establish her influence. India on the other hand had more negative image and been discriminated, I'm saying this in context about Indians living in the Philippines. Economic strength is the foundation of Super power or Regional power, right now India need to fix its problem at home before embarking on such expensive ego driven adventure.
We don't hear those countries leaning on sinophobic ultrafascist rethoric to distract from internal failures, though. While they might seek closer ties with the West, they don't go out of their way to antagonize China like India does.
