The recent and rapidly developing events around Russia and Ukraine has created many opportunities for discussion. Members of this forum, and indeed people worldwide, have voiced vastly different opinions on this series of events. While it's natural for us, a military-focused forum to get excited whenever military hardware is being used, we must remember that war is terrible. It is unfortunate that the differences between Russia and Ukraine could not be solved peacefully. We wish for the safety of all civilians entangled in this conflict.

Please remember that this forum is place for discussion, analysis, and speculation of historical, present, and future military hardware and strategy, primarily focused on China. We have always been cautious about allowing political discussions, although that has been increasingly hard to control, as geopolitics are highly intertwined with military strategies. You may have your own opinions on particular matters, and it may be different from that of other members of this forum. That is perfectly okay! We have members from all around the world, with vastly different ethnic, cultural, and political backgrounds. We do not expected everyone here to hold the same views when it comes to geopolitics, but we do expect everyone to respect the opinions of others.

Remember: this is NOT a forum where you have to convince and convert others. And most importantly, we do not promote war.

WARNING:
After having to go back and delete god knows how many posts from last night, let me be clear about one thing: The Ukrainian Conflict thread is about the current war between Ukraine and Russia. Let me remind you that China/Taiwan is NOT a part of this! All discussions on that topic can go to its own thread here:
or:

Anyone posting these off topic, or personal attacks comments in the Ukrainian Conflict thread will get an immediate ban!

This spamming of individual Twitter posts in the Ukraine Conflict thread need to stop! Once upon a time this forum had a rule that bans one-liners posts and picture-only posts to cultivate civilized discussions. We are implementing these rules once again to reduce spam in this thread.

The following types of posts will be deleted and the member will be warned/banned:
1. one-liner posts that provides no value to the discussion
2. picture-only (or Twitter-only) posts
3. comments targeting another member

If you are not prepared to bring some thoughtful analysis related to the topic of Ukraine Conflict in that specific thread, then feel free to not post anything.

In order to control post-floods, I've increased time limit between new posts/messages from 60 seconds to 300 seconds (5 minutes). New users will have to wait 5 minutes between posting new replies/messages to a thread.

Senior members, VIP members and Mods are exempt from this limit.

After much discussion, we are re-opening the Ukraine Conflict thread. All previous rules are still in place, that means:

1. absolutely no discussion of potential China/Taiwan conflict (militarily, politically, anything!)
2. no attacking other members, no matter how their opinions may differ from you (no slurs, name calling, etc.)
3. no one-liner posts
4. no single Twitter/Reddit posts, in fact we highly recommend not to use Twitter/Reddit as your source of information
*The above are immediately ban-able offenses!

5. keep the Ukraine conflict discussion to that thread - that means don't flood the World News thread!
6. posting a link to anything (news sites, official announcements, etc.) must be accompanied by some sort of analysis allowing for further discussion
7. if you all you want is to call out another member, but have nothing useful to bring forward to continue the discussion, then don't do it
8. call out inappropriate behaviour, not difference in opinion

9. if you see a troll post, the right thing to do is to IGNORE it!

We hope this thread will be used to provide useful updates on what is happening, staying away from obvious propaganda and mis-information.

Ok guys .... after some intensive discussion within the last few days including a assessment about the current situation and how to handle, we came to the conclusion, to close this thread!

In fact, this decision was univocal due to the latest developments, with so many new members bringing not only new opinions and insights, but most of all several new members brought down the moral attitude, the level of posting to such a shameless battle of propaganda, that it no longer acceptable to be left open.

We have always been a forum related to Chinese military, political threads were forbidden and only a few were accepted up to a certain level, but the situation changed dramatically, in fact completely.

While most of you know my stance; I wanted to close it already weeks ago, others within the moderation team suggested to wait and for contentious had the standing that threads "non important to SDF" like the one on the Ukraine war or in the past the HK protests, should be either handled as "almost anything is allowed" ..... or "the thread gets removed/locked/deleted".

However, as it came out, there is NO option in between, as it is just a waste of time and energy. For us as as moderators the time needed to watch and patrol the thread and even more to negotiate any action decisions to ban a certain member is beyond what the entire moderator team can manage, especially considering our much more important real world responsibilities.

As such we can fully understand some sort anger and frustration, but we hope for your understanding and respect in order to concentrate again on our own topic, namely "Sino-Defence".

As such, take this also as a clear warning: Any additional political thread opened or post to the Ukrainian war in other threads in order to circumvent this decision will immediately be closed and the thread starter banned!

All the best and take care; ... and may this war end soon!
Deino
