to deliver a package of upgrades under the Block 4 program to the ASQ-239 electronic warfare/countermeasures subsystem, both companies announced on Aug. 21.

Normally the details pertaining to the F-35 EW suite is seldom disclosed. However some limited information are being reported by AWST.

New upgrade preceded by recent technology insertion

BAE has now inserted the DTIP system into the ASQ-239 to upgrade Racks 2A and 2B. The acronym DTIP is a combination of two other acronyms: DCRTG, for the Digital Channelized Receiver/Techniques Generator, and TIP, for the Tuner Insertion Program. The combination results in a centralized electronic warfare processor that is more powerful, yet smaller. As a result, the DTIP will allow Lockheed to commission BAE to deliver new capabilities under Block 4.

Block 4 could expand frequency band coverage, add cognitive capability

The list included activating Band 5 receivers for the electronic support measures systems, as well as augmenting the F-35’s existing receivers in Bands 2, 3 and 4. Lockheed has previously said that the ASQ-239 included growth provisions in the existing apertures and aperture electronics to host a Band 5 radar warning capability. The upgrade would require incorporating a Band 5 switch in the new DTIP system.

Block 4 could introduce new software into the ASQ-239 that would enable a “cognitive” electronic warfare capability. Such technology generally refers to an improvement on technique generators based on digital radio frequency memory (DRFM) technology, which identify the chain of signals created by frequency-hopping emitters and develop a matching jamming signal based on stored information. By contrast, a cognitive system uses artificial intelligence algorithms, which learn the signals of advanced emitters that have not been previously recorded and develop a counter technique in real time.

Pilots launched from the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp to rehearse Combat Air Patrol missions with the F-35B, carrying and employing a live AIM-9X Sidewinder.

This firing, say the US Marine Corps, marked the first operational F-35B live-fire of the AIM-9X missile in the Indo-Pacific region while conducting blue-water flight operations.

The air-to-air missile drill validated weapons assembly and loading procedures on the flight deck of the ship and showcased the F-35B’s flexibility to offensively engage airborne targets. The missile targeted and successfully engaged LUU-2 flares dispensed out of an MV-22B Osprey during flight operations.”

LOL so you're saying this like what an F-35 pilot sees:

In low light conditions yes. The EODAS is in the IR range. And the current gen of HMD in Night vision mode is known to have reduced resolution.

I don't see why not, in actuality it is video games that rips of real life depictions of HUDs and night vision systems not the other way around. And most real life military HUDs and night visions are actually quite comically simple and cartoonish by intentional design.
