Jeffrey Goldberg is a narrow-minded idiot. There was a white high school girl who wore a Chinese cheongsam to prom and posted it on the internet and there was criticism that it was cultural appropriation. The right criticized it was woke culture at work. Then apparently the news reached China and people were ask what they thought about it and no one understood what was the problem. Jeffrey Goldberg wrote an article how this one and only instance he had respect for China. Why would he believe otherwise? Republicans are the first to believe that everyone else worships white people as gods. If they worship white people as gods, why would they be offended when the gods are honoring them by wearing their cultural attire? Wouldn't that be a great honor to them? The idiot Republican Jeffrey Goldberg thinks everyone he personally doesn't like in all the world is just like the American left. He don't like the Chinese... therefore the American left must be in league with China and vice versa. They all think alike and do and see the same things through the same lens. This coming from the US where people see anyone who disagrees with them as evil and of course they're the good. It's one giant huge contradiction because they can't be both good and both evil at the same time. And let's not forget a lot of this wokeness could be the right-wing at work. Look at Minneapolis during the George Floyd riots. People who were known white supremacists were among the protestors and the first to destroy property and burn buildings? Is this because they all of the sudden found the correct path in life and were protesting civil rights abuse by police. No, they did it because they wanted to make it look like BLM and the protesters were for violence and anarchy and they were going to do that everywhere and burn white people's homes down. They create fake outrage so they can politically exploit the result.

I think it's probably Pottinger due to his cowardice (in an on the record article, he admitted to advocating privately in the White House for COVID-19 measures like wearing masks but said nothing when Trump publicly wouldn't do anything) and general incompetence.
Not enough mention of Pottinger in the article. The guy is a former journalist, he knows the importance of hagiography.

I usually blow Xiyazhou's stuff as speculative tripe but he supposedly invites someone from the Chinese intelligence community to his new show. I would've laughed it off as implausible until he predicted that the China-EU deal would pass three days before it happened.

In the new show the guy claimed that Yang Jiechi's latest speech (teleconferenced) to the U.S. audience is basically China's last "gesture for peace" with the U.S., but apparently it was not understood or blown off by the elites. He claims that there is a high chance that China might pull off a stunt around the Taiwan straits sometime before Chinese New Year.

Idk if the US/West gets it:

I would believe it.

The US - China trade war and tech war is still ongoing. Then the United States tried to derail the Chinese European treaty talks over investments.

Then all we hear from the new US government is very hostile rhetoric against China.

China should be prepared to strike. When the enemy is on the run, you chase.

There should be no let up on the Chinese side, unless the United States seek talks to roll back the policies of the Trump administration. Otherwise this (non-kinetic) fight is going on.

In a previous episode they speculated that Biden might not be running the show since policies he supposedly enacted are all over the place.

Here's a piece from Martin Wolf today:
This article, I did not mind, but at the same time could not really see what was its point. Its ultimate point.

Everyone has an opinion. Containment of China, is it good, bad? Will it work, or will the strategy not work? Here Wolf did not argue too hard about it.

Let's consider for a second, what Prof Martin Jacques likes to talk about, that China is showing another way towards modernity.

That is kind of true. China is becoming a rather modern society, technologically advanced and have rising incomes.

But ... let's ask the question ... in a different way ...

Will the containment of China, lead by the USA, will be able to derail the distinct Chinese march to modernity?

Here, I would believe the answer is no as well.

Well ... if they cannot stop the development of China version of modernity ... then what is the point of containment?

The Wolf article did not argue his point in those terms. In China, they would probably see it in that way, because that what they doin'.

:p
