an ideal Chinese Carrier Strike Group could look like this

imagine transiting the Suez Canal

1 x Carrier CV16
2 x Heavy DDG the Type 055
3 x DDG the Type 052DL
1 x SSN the Type 095
1 x Type 901 Replenishment tanker

Total 8 x warships or over 175,000 tons of diplomacy
No frigates?

IMO, it could be handled well most of the time in the E/SC Sea, Philippine Sea, Andaman Sea/Bay of Bengal & the Arabian Sea, as well as in the W. Pacific North & West of Guam & Hawaii.

1. what is relatively calm in open ocean is a different kettle of fish from what is calm in the south china sea. One side of the pacific can see big swells because of a storm on the other side.

2. The pacific between hawaii and Alaska is notoriously stormy, even for an ocean, which is why shipping lane avoided it for a long time, and also why the japanese thought a strike on Pearl Harbor from that direction is least likely to be tripped up by air or surface pickets.
