I would say the Indian lockdown wasn’t really half hearted, it was the planning and logistics that was non-existent.

Many criticised China for not locking Wuhan down sooner with the benefit of hindsight ( nobody was saying that at the time, indeed the consensus in the west was that it was a massive and ‘draconian’ over-reaction), but one the the reasons it didn’t happen immediately upon confirmation of human-to-human transmission was because China needed to make preparations first to ensure that any lockdown was both robust and sustainable.

India just announced a lockdown without making any of the logistical planning or provisions as to what to do with people caught away from home and how to provide basic necessities to allow people to remain locked down that the whole thing collapsed almost immediately under an avalanche of needless human suffering.

India did not lock down too early because the actual length of time they remained under effective lockdown was pitiful. Almost every other nation has managed to sustain a lock down for a lot longer even if it was less stringent. India just screwed up locked so comprehensively and immediately that it basically didn’t happen as far as producing any tangible benefits in terms of tackling the outbreak, hence why their curve is one of uninterrupted exponential growth. Even Trump’s America managed to significantly alter their curve. Looking at the Indian curve you would not even know they had a lock down.

Fauci says vaccine is possible by October but more likely by November

Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr Anthony Fauci, refused to rule out the possibility of “October surprise” news of an effective vaccine in a call with the media.

Such news could come in the midst of the most highly anticipated election season in generations. The NIH started a large Phase 3 trial for a Covid-19 vaccine today.

Fauci said an October approval “is certainly conceivable, if we have a real blast of a rash of infection in those sites in which we do have active enrollment, that you might get an answer earlier than November. I doubt that, but we’re leaving an open mind that that might be possible.”

He added: “Likely November, but it is possible it could be earlier.”

Fauci seem pretty confident viable vaccine by Nov? That's seems much earlier timeline than most expected

The apathy for the poor by the govt and the elites is shocking. I have to admire the poor masses of India for the ability to endure pain, suffering and humiliation, if this happen to other countries their will uprising and revolution. I think the caste system is the contributing factor.

This is the most important part. As can be seen in youtube videos, in Wuhan, the mildly infected are isolated and put in re purpose exhibition halls and make shift hospitals. There are even videos circulating people are forcibly separated from their families. So this effectively break the transmission chain at house level. We can see old people separated from their children, husbands separated from wives, babies separated from mothers.

And the most important thing if people has to go to these isolation facilities, people dont have to pay and they were feed. This isolation part is where most countries failed to do. They just generalized isolating infected patients at home is ok. It is not, it just increase chances to spread to other family members.
