Shanghai seemed to never learn their lesson while the number of cases still rises. Travelers returned from different provinces was banned in restaurants, public venues, etc but they still could go to work and public transportation. They should be isolated for at least 1 weeks and tested daily. Provinces should also prepare for mask lockdown given the extreme contagious nature of the new variants while doing mass testing on residents. I personally think easing quarantine rules when winter coming is a very risky move and people in China don't like taking risk. Any more relaxation is dangerous to citizen's lives. The government should do their best to achive Zero-covid.

One more reason I think why alot of people in china opposed mandatory vaccine is that due to huge population of converted xtians in china , and as people gets older they become more religious and rigid.

Christianity is a 2000 years old desert cult and many Christian copies behaviour same as western nations Christian or American right wingers.

They oppose vaccine due to same Christian belives.
She claims that she is a xtian Chinese from Henan & proud unvaccinated people, she even opposes mask.
Sadly china has huge no. of xtian, not all religion can be reformed in my view both xtian & Islam religion are imperialist religion they come to impose their own value and destroy traditional values of natives.

I would recommend to convince any elderly to get vaccinated as soon as possible because I think if the goverment decide to relax its Covid measures anyone who dies will not be part of any record. The Chinese are not going to publish any data or count deaths, as they should, testing is only useful for implementing countermeasures against the virus not for bragging rights. So basically the pandemic will be "over".

Yes, the issue is fundamentally one of politics and blame.

Essentially the government since the beginning of COVID has tied up by concerns of deaths secondary to uncontrollable COVID, which fundamentally limits their options and compels them towards more safer, known policies (namely dynamic zero).

Everyone keeps talking about boosting elderly vaccination, which is common sense but also likely perceived as more difficult, because a mandatory vaccine drive would also attribute any perceived (real or fake) vaccine side effects as ammunition against the government.

Whether or not China can open up in the 2nd or 3rd quarter next year depends on the vaccination rate of its senior citizens. So far, only 40% of those over 80 years older has received a third (booster) shot.

The latest number in China's contribution to vaccine supply:
China need not reopen to the world. It is doing well economically and the government should continue saving lives rather than chasing economic growth. Zero-covid also prevent capital flows overseas. China don't need the world, the world need China. It will be fine if Zero-covid continue forever.
