本土病例174例 new symptomatic cases (Beijing 北京83例 and Shanghai 上海55例)
本土628例 new asymptomatic cases (Shanghai 上海503例)
Another 1 deaths in Shanghai.
Shanghai is looking better, but Beijing is starting to look concerning. Have they found and contained community transmission in Beijing already? Also a lot of news about another round of nucleic acid testing to be done for today.

They should be able to crack those agents down through surveillance and contact tracing, so it shouldn't be the main reason. What they need to watch out for is spillovers from Shanghai, there were news of individuals who were positive for infection managed to cross the border through bribery and connections. It was also a problem back when Hongkong got their outbreak, some of the people who lived there escaped the lockdown to Shenzhen and other regions.

I believe they found 26 new cases in a housing complex that had a few cases before. Beijing has done multiple rounds of mass testing nonstop. However, it looks more likely that Beijing needs to follow Shenzhen footstep to have a 7 days lock down in order to stamp out the virus.

Better to do a lockdown early now, than to wait till it reaches 1000+ cases then do a longer lockdown. But after the lockdown, they should follow restrictive measures and testing requirements like Shenzhen to keep those gains and maintain the momentum.

I'm starting to suspect there might be other motives behind the inaction and passing of responsibility to the local government by the central government. The behavior of the central government is strange compared to the decisive and quick action they have taken back in Wuhan, the news I've been reading from the domestic networks are local government being the one taking initiatives and passing policies with little to no mention of the central government playing a role.

What if these outbreak is being used to find and root out incompetent and incapable government officials? Maybe to set the narrative or scene before the national congress to gain support and push towards political reform at the lower level? The local government is known for being corrupt, filled with members that only joined the party for financial, status and promotion benefit instead of serving the people. Although this doesn't erase the economic and social damage these policies have done.

Indeed seems to be plausible reason for inactivity on the side of central government. Also can show how functional China is, if central authority gets possible taken out in war etc.

I think what we are seeing is asymptomatic cases becoming sick. We had a sudden uptick in symptomatic cases in Shanghai a few weeks ago too.
