In the most literal sense, China hasn’t been Covid Zero for months, and with every new mutation, the stakes rise for President Xi Jinping and the rest of the world. On a list of the top global political risks in 2022, the Eurasia Group put the failure of China’s pandemic strategy at No. 1.

The country won’t be able to fully keep out omicron and subsequent mutations, the report predicted, requiring more lockdowns and further disruption of the supply chain: “Low growth, high inflation, and growing inequality will exacerbate public frustration with governments and stoke political instability to a degree we haven’t seen since the 1990s,” the report said.

At this point, they are writing for the "outrage factor", not because it has any semblance of fact or reality. It's like projection of science-fiction on anything China-related. Their fantasy of authoritarian overreach and failure is not based on reality, but on what can trigger more emotional/outrage to get more viewers.

I agree, when there is large outbreaks, China tests the entire city, tens of millions of people. So for outbreaks, it's very comprehensive.

But for everyone 1 detected cases, there is another 1 case that is undetected because they have no signs/symptoms (asymptomatic rate of 40-60% of all infections). This is a problem globally, not just in China. It's even worse in nations with poor infrastructure or lack of testing capacity.
In the case of China, when there is a case, they will test the whole building where that person lives or works. so it is very comprehensive. A few cases at university, they will test the whole campus.

Why is Ian Bremmer describing the exact situations in his home country, the U.S. Has he lost confidence at his country's governing system? Oh the horror!!
