It was never really about free speech. As the power dynamics change, whatever the stronger power says is going to be true.

American rhetoric on "Free Speech" has become a joke ever since Trump first proposed the Tik Tok ban. This has only been reinforced recently with the crackdown on pro-Palestinian voices.

I'm more concerned about the practical aspect of this. It will make life more complicated for those of us who travel between the western sphere and China. Already flights are twice the cost (and duration!) of what they were before COVID.

Game about husbandos completely crushing it.

I mean like Love and Deepspace completely crushing all three Hoyoverse money printing machines.

Both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail had strong months in December, but it's notable how much their husbandos are driving it. For Genshin, it's Neuvillete again, and it's remarkable he is still getting these numbers a year after being released and having a third run. For Star Rail it's the much awaited release of Sunday.

Maybe there's lessons here. One is that there is a strong female audience in gacha games. The second is waifu fatigue, so husbandos have become a refreshing change.

December also saw the first numbers released of two very different games --- Infinity Nikki, which is as cozy as it gets, and Girls Frontline 2: Exilum, which has strong dark post apocalyptic undertones.

I think one strong suit of Love and Deepspace is the focus on a select number of characters. The cycle of having to hype up a new character each patch in Hoyo games gets tiring and older characters get forgotten. I'm reluctant to spend on new characters who I just met. Whereas I wouldn't hesitate to spend money on my favorites like Xiao, Hutao, Scaramouche if they had alts or skins.

You forgot, this is the style the earlier Honkai Impact 3rd used where they concentrated only with Kiana, Bronya, Mei, with alternative skins for such, then Himeko and Theresa (Apocalypse), then Seele, Sae Miko, Kallen, Rita Rossweith, and Fu Hwa.
