Ukrainian manufacturer of jet engines Motor Sich has agreed to a record $800 million contract with People’s Liberation Army for turbofan AI-322 engine production, according to multiple reports.

The story was first reported by Defense Express, which cited a defense industry source that stated that China is buying a batch of 400 AI-322 engines for JL-10 fighter trainer aircraft and its L-15 export version.

The JL-10 is a new type of supersonic jet trainer and light combat aircraft developed by the state-run Aviation Industry Corporation of China, or AVIC.

AVIC says the JL-10 has a maximum speed of 1,200 kilometers per hour and a maximum flight range of 2,600 km.
Trainer jets for advanced application teach student pilots how to operate supersonic aircraft and how to carry out sophisticated aerial maneuvers, while those for lead-in fighter training are enhanced versions of advanced jet models and focus on familiarizing trainees with combat maneuvers and skills.
The aircraft made its maiden flight on 13 March 2006. The aircraft’s general designer is Mr. Zhang Hong, and development had reportedly been completed alongside Yakovlev OKB of Russia.

On July 1, 2013, the first batch of JL-10 began delivery to the PLAAF. Chinese Air Force and later Naval Air Force are highly satisfied with the aircraft’s all-around performance, high reliability, cost-effectiveness, as well as its great multi-role update potentials, easy maintainability, and a service life of over 10,000 flying hours.

The Chinese light combat aircraft has two Ukrainian-made AI-322 engines.
AI-322 turbofan engine is designed to power modern trainers and light combat aircraft of L-15 or Yak-130 types, etc. According to Motor Sich’s website, the engine ensures maximum operational safety in flight and increased combat effectiveness with long service life and low operating costs.

It is great that they are going to build more JL-10s but they shouldn't be reliant on Ukraine for engines in the long term.
As a USA protectorate Ukraine might simply cease supply of the engine at any time.
But some of them are built in Chinese factory because they already set up local manufacturing in China. It is legacy of yakovlev design assistance and Not sure if the Chinese analogue is ready

Really? Any info on where this factory is located and which company runs it?
To admit I thought this was always the plan but until now all engines were Ukrainian ones.

Sky ryzon hold 80% of motor sich share the rest are hold by Ukrainian government. The plan is to wholly owned the rest It was held up by Ukrainian government If you dig hundred of pages in Chinese engine thread there is article about China building facility to locally built engine complete with Ukrainian town and churches I posted when I find it

The DCH deal needs approval from Ukraine’s national regulator, the State Antimonopoly Committee.

Skyrizon holds around 80% of Motor Sich though several foreign companies. The remainder is held by small shareholders.

Last year, the Antimonopoly Committee started an investigation into Skyrizon’s stake in Motor Sich.

The Committee spokeswoman told Reuters on Wednesday that the regulator was continuing this investigation

DCH, owned by Ukrainian businessman Oleksandr Yaroslavsky, said the regulator had 135 days at most to make its decision on its plan to buy 25% of Motor Sich.

“We will seek fairness and protection of our investments in court by all legal means,” DCH said.

In the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing, Motor Sich and Beijing Skyrizon in 2017 agreed to jointly build a plant to service and manufacture aircraft engines. The Chinese partners offered to build a small town in which Ukrainian engineers would feel at home, Boguslayev said.

“They said, ‘Give us 1,000 people,’ ” Boguslayev recalled. “ ‘We’ll build a church for you here. We’ll build a kindergarten.’ ”

The plant has been partially built, Boguslayev said, but is not yet operational.

Maybe the deal was to help unfreeze the investment/tech transfer during Biden?

It is frozen but not cancelled ! Ukraine has not choice the Russian is not buying their engine anymore For the western market their engine is outdated and sofar no taker to take over the sich motor. That left only china to save them from bankruptcy with permanent lost of jobs, technology, etc At lest with Chinese investment they can kept their design office and some manufacturing intact in Ukraine plus they have more capital to build or update their engine
