Not a sub, but tanks for an LNG carrier seen in Jiangnan Shipyard.

This isn't as big as the one that Hudong Zhonghua intends to build next year, which will be the world's largest LNG carrier then. (HDZ needs to float out their Type 075s before then to clear its biggest dock.)

Still its a giant step for Jiangnan Shipyard to get into the lucrative LNG carrier business which appears to be having a boom despite the universal downtrend of the global shipbuilding industry. This is because of the migration of fossil fuel consumption from oil to natural gas.

I think it is more accurate to say China's demand for gas is booming because coal heating is being replaced by gas heating as part of the environmental cleanup in the cities.

Gas is much cleaner but also more expensive.

We have seen these COSCO ships before, like in overhead pictures of Jiangnan Shipyard. While our eyes are focused on the sheer breadth and number of destroyers being built, or where the third carrier is being assembled, we tend to omit that the fact that those freighters are among the largest ships ever made in China and for the rest of the world. Think of a ship that can hold the displacement equal to four aircraft carriers.

A ship that can lift and carry another ship. This can lift a Liaoning or a QE class aircraft carrier. Off shore oil drilling facilities are lifted and carried by ships like these.

Here the ship is literally carrying a floating dock on its own, and floating docks are used to carry ships.



Another COSCO semi-submersible takes on three ferries to carry them to their new home.

Another BRI ship, the Ore Tianjin was built by CSIC on a dock at Qingdao, and was delivered to Vale Brasil. Its main job is to deliver ore to China. At 362 meters long, this monster ship requires stress monitoring system on every section. These ships require the use of extreme strong high tensile steels that require special welding techniques.
