Please read carefully.

It is supposedly a one-off deal, not a continuous licensing deal like Arm's. They are prepared to sell everything including lock, stock and barrel. And I read somewhere they are prepared to help to set up a research division for the US company too. If this whole thing ever comes to pass, utter stupidity is the word.

It doesn't really matter as the majority of the juicy 5g bids have already happen or is happening now. For a company to buy the 5g patents now, it would take at least 2-3 years to get a product out. By that time, Huawei would of already gone thru various iterations and be technical far ahead anyways. Patents I believe are only good for 20 years and I am thinking these patents are already 5-10 year old anyways. Telco hardware ends up becoming a commodity and everyone ends up betting on lowest price at a certain point.

Huawei has a perpetual license for ARM at a certain board release/reversion

1. This offer was at least a year ago, and probably has expired.

2. 6G is coming, and maybe Huawei knows when it will arrive. They probably the leader in that research too. When 6G does arrive, the 5G portfolio goes down in value.

3. Huawei did not get to where they are by being not able to do business.

Ren Zhengfei is saying, that you Americans are behind. Here, Ren Zhengfei will give you a chance to catch up quickly. If they do not take it, Ren Zhengfei will go ahead crush you as hard as he can with a clear conscience.

That's how it really works.

:)
I don't agree. Too positive.

1. That still doesn't change the point. What's now different from a year ago? Being expired has nothing to do with whether that move itself was wise or not.

2. Now is just the beginning of 5G era and long period of time ahead for 5G business. It is still far away until 6G to come. Huawei expects 6G to come in 2030, so it's 10 years. This is not the appropriate time to make an argument of 5G going down when 5G is beginning.

3. Why give Americans a chance to catch up quickly in the first place? He shouldn't. It's not if they do not take it, he shouldn't even if they do take it.

The Americans are too far behind the Chinese in building standalone 5G networks.

If the Americans accepted Huawei offer, then they could be 3-4 years behind, instead of 5-7 years behind China in building a national standalone 5G network.

First mover advantage is already gone. We know who it will go to. Ren Zhengfei knew that even back then.

Ren Zhengfei's offering was a peace offering, and a business proposition. It was a good move, because now there is clarity.

The goals for the company has not changed. Building of the 5G network is a means to an end.

Building the 5G standalone network is not an end in itself. It is a means to an end. The end game is the apps that are built on top of the standalone 5G network. That is where the big money is.

First mover advantage will position those who get there first the greatest opportunities to reap the most rewards.

And China got a multi-year lead on everyone, and possess the best gear, built by Huawei.

That is why President Trump was so mad. This was a butt kicking, and he could not take it, and flipped out.

@horse bro Ren Zhengfei is gloating, I like his style a Chinese style...lol, bro he is giving the American the middle finger showing them by hamstringing his company they're able to grow more...hahaha. As they say successful people or company grew from adversity, Thank you America for giving them the inspiration to fight and innovate ..LOL

When I think of it, your reasoning makes sense!

I think that yes he is giving Americans the middle finger. From saying he will sell, to actually selling there are oceans in between. He is playing humble and scared, but is teasing. He certainly has no intention of selling and he also knows the Americans will not swallow having to buy his technology.

Ren Zengfei is NOT desperate. He is coming up with a brand new OS. They are moving into EV. They have signed a huge portion of the world`s 5G contracts.

He is, as you say, giving the Americans the middle finger!

I doubt he will sell, even if Americans want.

@jfcarli bro I learned a lot from @horse , his thinking had the same wavelength with Ren Zengfei..lol, bro look at it from his POV, having your daughter kidnap, hamstringing your company by sanction, false accusation all by a superpower, instead of acquiescing he fight back. He is a product of his generation were he experience hardship and learned to live with it instead of complaining (EAT BITTERNESS). His problem with Washington only strengthen his resolved. And with the adversarial attitude of the US against China, today generation and the next will carry on his legacy. Being face with adversity is a good way in motivating your population therefore we will not suffer the same fate as the Japanese.

@horse bro from AsiaTimes, I think Mr Goldman had consulted you regarding China 5G and its application..lol, Joking aside your thesis and analysis is spot on. Its the 5G application that is important and Huawei is a dominant leader.

NEW YORK – Chinese manufacturers have installed about 5,000 private 5G networks and will add tens of thousands more this year as 5G broadband enables Fourth Industrial Revolution applications, according to mainland industry leaders. China already has 70% of the world’s installed 5G base stations and 80% of the world’s 5G smartphone users. The global […]

Goldman is someone we should all listen to.

The Jews survived only by the wits. They were continuously prosecuted, and always a minority. It is a miracle they survived. They like China because #1 they like Chinese food, and #2 China did not prosecute them. China was the only country in history that did not prosecute the Jew.

Just seems to me that the Jewish banker know almost everything we need to know about the world.

Since he is old and rich, he does not give a shit about his career, Goldman is going to tell the truth, whether his fellow Americans want to hear it or not.

So far, they're not listening!

The whole point of building the 5G standalone network, it is a means to an end. I read an article somewhere about some German factory building furniture, and they installed 5G to improve their processes, and they managed to find savings to operations of 10% somewhere. That is an extra 10% profit for them.

Factories will be more competitive with 5G. Who writes that software for the hardware, who gets there first with this efficiently improvement tools will win over a brand new market. Upgrades to current business, and new businesses created, all with 5G networks.

And the Americans, all they do is ban Huawei. That is not going to work.

Goldman has been telling the Americans they must start to take China seriously for a few years now. Video from 2017.

@horse bro that is why Mr Ren Zengfei remark is so ironic (the US is making fun of its piggery business), they had almost completed their 5G tech vertical integration except for its semiconductor (working progress). And the US sanction helped them to achieved that by diversifying and leveraging its 5G, talk about the unintended consequences...lol
