Hi quantumlight,

You can't implement a retaliatory action if you're so behind, you only hurt yourself. China is striving to catch up with the leaders, that's the right strategy. They're 2 generation behind if you count the current SMIC 14nm. If they can able to mass produce the 7nm chips, like I said its game. China can implement an import substitute . Right now the priority is to help Huawei, SMIC and SMEE in mass produce 14nm tech 2021, MAYBE 7nm in 2023, its a process, it needed time and huge amount of money.
China should just boycott the US in retaliation. The yankees are just robbing 5G patents and money from the Chinese. Biden said he wants China to "play by the rules". Maybe they themselves should play by the rules, and pay Huawei for using its 5G patents. Huawei should just start some lawsuits against Verizon for 5G patents.

Hi Peter2018,

All in due time my friend, China right now is holding a weaker hand, it need to strengthened herself and by the way that's the real intention of the US. We can conceptualize the western way of thinking by first to deny, then to restrict and if not successful delayed (become obsolete)them the needed technology. That's what happening in the DUVL staged as China was denied the latest equipment until SMEE develop their advance 28nm DUVL, now you can see ASML marketing its 7nm mask aligner to China. That's how they play the game and China is adept to handle it cause she was always being sanction.

This is from weeks back, but if true and i certainly hope it is, the move to de-americanise Chinese semiconductor supply chains should not pause or go unabated; in fact, once Chinese semiconductor companies push into the 5nm space, they should displace all american semiconductor companies.
The Chinese gov. should aggressively target all US tech companies for harassment and termination for what they did to Huawei and ZTE and TikTok and DJI

Seriously, I sincerely hope China gov't doesn't move resources away from semiconductor vertical integration and supply chain self-sufficiency, even after (relative) normalization of trade ties with US. Don't go back to normal, buying 100% American, China needs to support and buy from it's own industries to prevent Trump 2.0 in 2024 or who knows from taking Chinese Tech hostage again. Never again! Lesson learned.

Hi Phead128,

Roger that and its being heard by all Chinese, you can see how Huawei sales remain high and compare that to Apple. So the support is there, what is really needed is talent and that takes time. But I wanted to be surprise and China always provide one. One of those is the mass production of 7nm chips in late 2021 or early 2022. :)

It’s about strengthening the Chinese civilization and our people. We are bound by our genes no matter where we go. The sinosphere is an extension of that.

China can overturn the current image of Asia

I can see more engineers and PhDs heading home after travel restrictions is over.
