It's a start, but they need to expand capacity many times more.

TSMC does 730,000 wafers per month for its 16nm process.
Looking at the writing, does that mean that if SMIC is not able to do GaaFET that they will be even more behind? They just got FinFET done.

How to dominate when the market is in China. Maybe for a short time period the US can still maintain the lead in semiconductor tech, but for how long if that is not market driven. The large electronic products market in China will ensure the Chinese will sustain the semiconductor tech development effort until parity is established with the West.

I would be very surprised if this goes through. If so, I'd imagine all other Chinese vendors would work doubly hard to go indigenous and harmony os would be used much more
They should work trebbly hard regardles of what happens to Honor. China should work day and night in order to get FULLY SELF SUFFICIENT at least in the >= 28nm chips.

The danger to China is absolutely real.

The Americans are ruthless. We tend to underestimate their ruthlessness and that is a big problem.

The Americans are stupid.

One president said that China pays the tariff.

The next president agrees and continue with the same policy.

Both SMIC and Huawei still extremely well, one making record profits, the other not much really changed for their profitability.

If that is American ruthlessness, then China needs more of that.

The truth is, that it is slipping away from the Americans.

Being ruthless or not, has no bearing on the current day, and the coming outcomes.
