Two of the four remote weapons stations on the replenishment ship Chaohu (on top of the hangar, in each corner):

Those ain't pure-bred RWS, more like compact one-man gun station with the remote-control option. It'd have been 1/3 more compact if the gunner station (along with the associated optics) was removed, thus making it genuine RWS.

I believe it's similar to the system on the type 056 where they reserve space for seat and option for manual control, but it can also be remote controlled.

Close ups of the system. Apparently this one is also 30mm like the 056's. Wonder if it is an improvement, or a watered downed version.

On second thought I wonder if there really is space for a seat or this is intended to be remote controlled only?

That's a different model compare with the ones on 056 corvette, perhaps using different gun (although both are 30mm, this one seems to be bigger) and feed system, but the control and optic suites seems to be the same - on the right of the gun is the gunner's station, the trapezium box is the gunner's optic suite, and you can see on top of that' there's the rudimentary iron sight should all else failed.

The second pic gives you some idea as to the scale to the human crew, which by my observation that's a more comfortable fit than the 056's.

I've see that that they have made remote control 12.5mm and 20mm guns, but I have not seen any 14.5mm remote machine guns. Is it because the weight of the weapon is closer to 20mm and it lacks the punch of the 20mm?

There's one 14.5mm RWS on the page 2 of this thread.

Thing is, if there're models for 12.7mm, 14.5mm and 20mm weapons, it's merely to show platform technology wise they can take a multitude of weapons via selections of RWS turrets, gun wise whether made by China or otherwise, something that's ultimately up to the client's wish to adopt.

Yeah, this one has the electro-optics ball on the left side of the turret while the 056's has the electro-optics ball on the right, above the seat and manual sights. I don't think this turret is bigger than the 056's but the gun's pivot point seems to be set further back. The 056's cannon turrets look like a very tight fit so perhaps they were specially designed to fit in that specific space while compromising some other quality... making this the no compromises for limited space version?
