The 40 J-35AEs even became less of a shock, what a twist.

The key problem here is exactly how many HQ-19 systems will be sold. Is it only going to be a few systems that only used to defend Islamabad, or there will be surfficient number of system that will defend most of Pakisiani strategic military and economy facilities that would completely alter the Indian-Pakistani nuclear balance.

Pakistan is long and thin, attractive qualities for a woman but not for a country. We'd need something like 3 to 5 batteries minimum if they're going to go with extra launchers and 5 to 7 batteries if they're going to go with a standard battery size. Plus the mountains in the north make things that much more difficult.

But why HQ-19? I may be wrong but ballistic missiles are not that big of a threat to Pakistan, or maybe they are now. Why not focus on more air defence systems than going for BMD?

it looks like more short range and long range SAM systems are also on the list, medium range systems might be a local system in development.

Also to fully utilize such a system would in no doubt need Chinese satellite, ground and aerial surveillance system. If we get a bit more imaginative, there may even be a secret promise to intercept nuclear missiles launched from India to China at boost stage and even a Chinese led equivalent of NORAD. Now that would be way way beyond the scope of Pakistani-Indian comflict.

I like where you're going with this and this most likely sounds like the best explanation for all this. Man I just hope our AD is in good shape because they had a less than stellar showing on 10th May.

That would make a lot of sense but also very different from previous Chinese strategic thinking, I would say it's a less likely hypothesis comprared to more boring explanations like some high up Pakistani military official just wanted HQ-19 themself, or even China asked Pakistan to get a few HQ-19 only because the Chinese battefield system is built with KJ-500, HQ-19 ground radar system etc and said we gonna export the whole system to Pakistan. There are many more possibilties and I was being imaginative, but to think about it is a bit exciting to me at least haha.

don’t believe the Indians our AD did in fact do well, the missiles that got through was due to the simple fact of volume. The vast majority of them were taken down.

I'm not sourcing the Indians on this. Either we were being too cautious or for some other reason the HQ-9 did let a lot of damage happen that day. It is not a bad system but we need a lot more of it since India now knows that our AD is our weakness. Next time around the missile volley would be at minimum twice the size we had to face this time around, plus the threat of drones, SEAD and what not.

More HQ-9 batteries would help a lot. I'd even go as for as to say that we might need something like 2x the current size of wholly integrated HQ-9 batteries along with other medium and short range systems. HQ-19 if coming is not an unwelcome capability but in my opinion HQ-9 is quite a lot more necessary. Pakistan needs some ToT or some other arrangement to better develop HQ-9 for her own needs.

yes, we will have to have more coverage, and we will if the rumours of short range and long range HQ9 and also the HQ19 will be a game changer.
