Does the post provided any source of the claim? I ask because there was a patent in 2017 by 701 institute in Wuhan about a electric motor wrapped arround conventional drive shaft. I wonder if they are the same program. Patent is CN107745793A.

But modification to old vessels require major hull cutting operation. IMO currently, maybe only the few final units of 052D built in 155 will benefit from these.
