I called the windshield pointless in that particular instance since water and whatever else can still hit the occupants from every other angle, it does provide some ride comfort but at the same time gets in the way of firing weapons. The enclosed cab makes sense to protect from the elements but certainly limits firing angles and visibility. When used as a combat transport might as well do away with any windshield, cab, or canvas.

I don't think the Wiesel is a good comparison since it is both armored and tracked while this thing is neither. Which I think actually makes more sense since minimal armor only creates a false sense of security.

The armor on the weasel is adaquate against small arms fire, which is pretty much par for the course for all light armored vehicles such as conventional APCs.

Whether armor creates a false sense of security is a matter for training. It is perverse to deprive soldiers of protection just to force them to be more alert. They should instead be trained to be alert, and be given proper indoctrination about the level of protection they should expect from the armor they have, so they can make the best decisions on the spot and exploit what protection they have.

If you've rode motorcycle in the winter, you'll realize that any windshield, even small ones are not pointless. The windshield on those ATV is big enough to be comfy :)

Several variants of ZBD-08 on the same rail cart (engineering, command, and IFV), along with a 99a2 MBT. This is pretty much the latest and the greatest lineup in Chinese armor:

Yet another new variant of the ZBD-08:

I would guess mortar turret edition if not for the large bulge over the top of the turret.

Maybe the large bulge is a remote weapon station?

Or sensors that allow the IFV to engage aerial targets with its main armament? Which in this case may be either a 30mm or 35mm cannon?

Aren't the ZBD-08 tracks a bit narrow for muddy fields?

Track width doesn't matter; what matters is ground pressure (pounds/square inch or kilogram/per square centimeter). ZBD-08 weighs significantly less than a MBT, so narrower tracks should produce comparable, if not less ground pressure.

According to the label on the vehicle, this vehicle belongs Chinese Forest Police; however, the poster of the photos comment that the vehicle looks "too ugly"! As long as it's tough and strong, who cares about its appearance, huh? But, to go off-road in the forest, I hope the vehicle gets bigger wheels.
