Yes, those are Kurds. Someone also delivered them M99 anti-material sniper rifles.

Here is ARES briefing of the grenade launcher.

The Turks gunna be pissed.

I guess that gives some context to the recent high profile moves by Turkey to move closer to Russia.

In many ways, arming the Kurds would be similar to providing arms to the IRA during the height of the 'troubles'.

Kurds control oil fields in Iraq and IS overrunning those fields would be bad news for Chinese companies working there. Turkish air force even bombed Kurds in Syria-Iraq border when they were fighting against IS! I'm not sure what Erdogan wants but IS sells oil trough Turkey so perhaps he wants that oil? IS controlling those oil fields is same as Turkey controlling them.

Anyhow, it's in Chinese interests to support Kurds even if turkey doesn't like it.

Well, those might be Chinese made weapons, but its not Beijing who is supplying them to the Kurds.

China's no strings attached arms sales policy and its strict non-interference policy gives it plausible deniability even if they were directly supplying the Kurds, but the fact is everyone and their mother believes it's the CIA and American Gulf allies that are arming the Kurds, so that would be where Turkish ire is directed.

When considering the Turks have every intention to let the IS do the dirty work for them (ie. wipe out the Kurds powerbase in Northern Iraq), anything that gets in the way of that end would naturally be unwelcome to them.

Still, wondering how the QLZ-87 fairs in the battlefield, for my impression of that thing is that - too unwieldy for man-portable, and not enough shots for sustained fire that'd be the key factor for any AGL.

I think this photo denies your statement "unwieldy".

I am sure grenade launchers are effective in infantry fighting and even more for so for computerized types. But there does not seem to have any reports on the performance of those used in Afghanistan.
