China made enough masks to equip every person on this planet multiple and multiple times over. But it's an evil country still.
@Crang,

It came from our very favorite WSJ....LOL ;) waiting for bloomberg, CNN and BBC to parrot the same,

Told you so(positive news), now CNN and BBC need to take their cue from Bloomberg.....waiting.....waiting...LOL.

I think the lockdown success in China just shows that no one can beat Chinese in "eat bitter"

we can get through anything.
@localizer,

I heard that word everyday when I was growing up and I resent it, being deprived as a child and being chastised is traumatic, but like you said it prepared you for any eventuality and it make you strong mentally. That tough loved is now missing in the current generation of Chinese family (I'm one of them, I'm a push over with regard to my children).

It's those sad memories of the Chinese experience that keep us strong and united.

We will soon have generations without those memories.

And like u just added, many of us are easy on the next generation because the past left too much scars. Don’t want to pass that down.

China Ends 2020 With Record Trade Surplus as Pandemic Goods Soar

Bloomberg News
Thu, January 14, 2021

Exports grew 18.1% in dollar terms in December from a year earlier -- softer than November’s bumper 21.1% expansion -- while imports rose 6.5%, both beating economists’ expectations. The trade surplus of $78.2 billion for the month was higher than the $72 billion median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists. For the full year, the trade surplus reached $535 billion, a 27% increase from 2019 and the highest since 2015.

China trade surplus with US widens 7.1% to $317 bn in 2020: official

Wed, January 13, 2021

China's trade surplus with the United States widened last year despite a partial trade deal requiring Beijing to boost purchases, official figures showed Thursday.

Donald Trump had made closing the trade gap with China a priority when he took office four years ago and launched a bruising trade war with Beijing.

But China's customs administration data showed the surplus climbed 7.1 percent to $316.9 billion, with outbound shipments boosted by sales of electronics goods and protective gear.

For the whole of 2020, China's exports rose 3.6 percent, although imports shrank 1.1 percent.
