I see one major hurdle for China because it's something China wants that's worthless. China wants respect from the very people who want to undermine China. What's makes it more difficult to resolve, it's more cultural and not something of the government. It bewilders me when I comes across Chinese who argue that China should copy. This is where both China and the US have in common. They both think the other side thinks just like them. In China doing what is seen as a more advanced society does, makes them an equal. They want to believe they're as advanced as they are. That's old inferior complex thinking. That's why they argue copying is good. Because to them that makes Chinese an equal. Not to Americans. To them copying means you're stealing. You're being lazy and trying to take short cuts to taking credit for something that's not yours in the first place. Why does China value being a part of the International Space Station? China can build their own space station. There are those in Beijing that want to be a part of the ISS because of prestige. To them it says China is equal to the most advanced countries in the world. Not to the US. Is China doing anything different when they just copy? What does China have to offer that can't be done by any other partners in the ISS? Nothing. When you examine hierarchies it's all about defining how people are different from the other not about finding how everyone is the same. They don't want people being the same to them. They want to be unique. Why do you think the celebrity culture in the US is so valued? By it's very nature, it demands the fewest people possible ever achieve celebrity. If everyone could be a celebrity then everyone would be the same. What's the point? The more celebrities, the less fame and money they get. So why would they want everyone to be the same with them?
Respect is something that's earned not given away. If you expect someone to give you respect, it's the worthless superficial kind. If you can buy off someone to give you respect, is it real? China's enemies always point to how China is not liked by others. China is the second most powerful country in the world and being liked had nothing to do with it. So what's the value of being liked? Wanting respect and being liked are both the same. They're worthless. If those things carried value, China would not be the second most powerful country in the world because China is not respected and liked. People in this forum point to how some Chinese companies are traitors because they wanted to use American/Western chips and processors for their prestige value in selling their products to Chinese consumers. Can you imagine where China would be at if they just made their own from the beginning and people like Trump wouldn't be able to use it in his trade war with China making China have to scramble to go domestic now?
