This anti chinese is happening due to lot of reasons in both China and US.
The US saw the ruthless efficiency of the Chinese government with much animosity.
The Chinese take immediate draconian actions after an initial misstep, prioritise saving lives ahead of the economy and human rights.
The Chinese lockdown the whole country and used high tech surveillance to monitor and trace the spread of the virus on its people, a method despised by the American. The American was expecting masses of people would rise up against the CCP, nothing happened.
When China lockdown the country, there was no chaos. Chinese did not jammed buses, trains or planes. They did not have to walk hundred of kilometers to their homes. And everyone, somehow was able to find shelter, there was no masses of people living in the street.
When China announced the lockdown, there was no mass panic buying. No long queue and no fighting over daily necessities at supermarkets. Foreigners did not witness any long queue of Chinese for foods handout. Americans watched in disbelief because they thought there was over a billion poor hungry Chinese, so China is very deceptive.
The Chinese is highly organised in large scale logistic. The world saw many Y20 transporting thousands of medical staffs and supplies to its epic centre on a massive scale. The whole country is organised and united in fighting the virus in Wuhan. American can't see that happening in New York. US federal and provincial authorities were at odd and compete with each other and Americans have to blame someone. Gusess who?
In US, you may get a free test if you are lucky but if you have no medical insurance, you have to pay for your own treatments which cost thousands. For the Chinese, all covid-19 treatment related costs are free, insurance not required. Hard for Americans' virus victims to comprehend. Adding salt to injury.
America is having a hard time in trying to get enough medical aids, both locally and overseas, unable to get their own productions up and running in time and at a reasonable price. Due to worldwide shortages, competitions amoung themselves and Trump tariff, US import them at a high price. And most of their supplies, from medicines to masks are imported from Chiaana. Adding more salt to injury.
The Chinese on the other hand were able to produce enough for themselves and the world in a very short time. Companies without prior experiences were able to manufacture medical goods after a few weeks of R&D. Chinese ingenuity at work.
So if you look at the whole picture, with cases growing in US and nothing much hapenning in China, it's not so hard to understand the growing animosity towards China. These are just my observations, from in a third country with no connection to China or US.

Protest and ignore the ignorance. What else can one do?

This is a problem for being non-subservient to american interest, even when they managed to shoot their own foot.

What the hell is the point of a trade war when both economies are going broke anyway. Three months of coronavirus did more harm than two years of trade war. If I had any say I would roll back tariffs and other measures from both sides.

Good luck with hegemony when you don't have an economy to sustain it. And I say this to both governments.
