From the point of view of risk management of critical national infrastructure like 5G, it makes a lot of sense to diversify the equipment and technology suppliers. I think the 35% cap on Huawei is just to mollify the US.

Huawei probably is quite happy with this UK decision, as it sets the tone for the rest of EU.

Yes Huawei is happy, because it stopped USA meddling and dictating in one fell swoop. It is a better outcome than the alternatives. But it is not the outcome that would have been, if the market had decide rather than governments. Its hardly fair or free!

This is why China/Xi appeasement of US/Trump will never work, the Americans dont even believe in China having room to live, much less a mutual shared prosperity or Detente... for the US its all or nothing, full spectrum dominance and supremacy and it will never stop until China is on its back. At some point China needs to fight back
Fighting is not always the solution. It cause lots of complications. When fighting bullets with bullets, tariffs with tariffs, no one wins. The best options for China are continue improvements in its governance, technology, steady sustainable economic growth, outreach to all countries and a minimum but credible defence.

US called UK's bluff about not sharing intel if they used Huawei

Mr Pompeo added that intelligence-sharing arrangements between the two countries would continue.

The US has long argued that Huawei's equipment poses a spying risk.

But the UK government gave the green light to Huawei's involvement in 5G on Tuesday, despite previous pressure from the US to block the firm.

Lol. Another falsehood exposed! Trump sent Pompeo to do the humiliating job of eating humble pie! And he's doing a grand job of eating that our, talk about still smarting from it. Noticed he still mentioned CCP as the enemy. Didn't he get the memo that Trump is Xi's buddy?!

Yeah, the threat was so real, USA threaten every country that install Huawei. Now bluffs been called, expect the floodgates to be open with the rest of the western countries. But where does this leave our friends, the Canadians and OZ who stand by Trump's call, indeed go as far as being the cheerleaders! They must be furious!

Now let's release Meng who was arrested on another falsehood. I mean how long have they held her without charge? If that had happen to a US citizen in China, can you imagine the uproar in the MSM!
