British decision to accept Huawei for 5G is a major defeat for the United Statees. How big does Huawei have to get and how many countries have to sign with Huawei for the US government to realize we are losing the internet to China? This is becoming an enormous strategic defeat.

It is a developed country problem. The thing to focus here is that East Asian countries are relatively closed off to foreigners or immigrants. Those interested may want to check up how immigrant population can "cover for" the shortfalls in fertility from the already settled population in western countries.
China must say NO to liberal immigration while adopting moderately liberal outlook in civilian life. If pressed into action by a dire economic situation, China may only accept immigrants from potentially friendly or neutral cultures/peoples/ethnicities with respect to its future stability and aspirations. Some of them may be - Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia, Bhutan, Combodia etc.

I am not sure that is true anymore Seem like Singapore and Malaysia are welcoming people with money and talent
Malaysia is now the number 1 destination of Japanese immigrant 13 years in row Thousand of Japanese and Chinese, Korean now are moving to Malaysia and Singapore specially the young one The attraction is relax lifestyle, mild climate, food and vibrant multi culture Surprising seem the West is loosing its allure and somehow those north eastern people are finding connection with SEA I guess for Chinese it is understood as million of their countrymen has established good life in SEA
Chinese in Malaysia

Japanese in Malaysia

Japanese in Singapore

Some even marry Chinese Malaysian

I lived and worked in Singapore for several years as an expat, and had many Japanese colleagues and friends there. A few of which I still keep in touch with. Like Hendrick said, the Japanese found Singapore very much to their liking. Almost all of them were or intended to become Singapore permanent residences. But none of them ever gained Singapore citizenship because both Singapore and Japan do not allow dual citizenship. They all intended to return to Japan eventually.

What China needs is to be selective of the immigrants from countries and/or cultures that will ensure them to become Chinese citizens, and fully integrated with the China's Han dominant society within one or two generations.

Good assessment of why Britain have choose to allow Hauwei to operate in UK's 5G roll out.

It contain bias and coloured views of China and Huawei, but nontheless the overall message is that Britain CAN'T afford not to have Hauwei!

I think this single decision by Britain will have a profound effect on the western world, not only in the technology, but also in Trump's trade war calculus. It will affect phrase 2 tremendously. It has now weaken Trump's bargaining position. It certainly make our friends down under the odd man out!

Because this single decision from the UK will cascade to other European countries in their decision on 5G. And it will be a brave country to willing to sacrifice its country's own future, and get left behind like OZ on the trump-up (no puns intended) charge of security, to defend USA intetest. Now the UK is technically saying security its not an issue, because it can be managed.

When all countries from Europe falls in line with Britain, others around the world should/would follow leaving US, OZ, Canada and Vietnam the odd man out.

Johnson won’t say so, but the real decision about Huawei was made years ago

This decision by UK have some significance:
-It exonerated Huawei, no evidence of spying.
-It proved Huawei's 5G is the most advanced or top of the range.
-Huawei 5G is the most cost effective in the market.
-All the 5-Eyes countries have none of their own 5G products comparable to Huawei.
-US influence over it's allies is not as solid as one would think or worse is wilting.
-It makes Angela Merkel's argument in support of Huawei 5G easier.
-It exposes the fact that the decision of the first country in the world to ban Huawei's 5G, Australia, is a political one based on distrust and assumed guilt.
- It confirm Boris trusted Huawei enough to confidently use its phone long ago. Of course it would had been cleared by MI5. They do not want the US listening in as the US did to Angela Merkel.

Love your assessment of this sorry saga of a fallen empire!

I particularly like OZ (australian), they are like the school kids always standing behind the big boy at school. And will do anything to please them. So they rush in to please the big boy in the school playground, but now come unstuck, and the big boy will leave them high and dry!

In addition:

This exposed the kidnapping of Meng is political movitated!

This Zak cybersecurity dude writing column articles for Forbes repeatedly said so as much. For the past few weeks he had been saying how the UK decision on Huawei 5G would be "totemic" and if UK couldn't muster enough courage to ban Huawei then what chance did some of the smaller nations had...

This guy is a Huawei hater for sure, as evidenced by some of his baised posts (as a so called cyber security expert in the field he should know better than that) but even he knew that if UK couldn't even be persuaded to fall in line with the US, the rest was gonna fall to Huawei as well...

Even the Pentagon figured out switching to 10% rule might backfire, now even more so than before.

I bet Canada feels a bit foolish right now, agreeing to do the unlawful Meng kidnapping at the behest of the US government to benefit US geopolitical hegemony and US economic interests.
