China's SCS Strategy Thread

American-aligned political forces in the country have recently increased their anti-China rhetoric with a couple of proposals. Concerning the first article, there was a similar bill that was drafted back in the mid 2000s but has been scrapped after China protested. I don't see this bill being approved while Duterte is still in power, but it is worthy to note that elections will be held May next year, so this is perhaps in preparation for the next possible American-sponsored politician that will replace Duterte. If only the 5+ million strong ethnic Chinese population in the Philippines are more politically active/involved, the US will have a harder time attempting to sway the elections in their favor.

If the next President is US sponsored, an invasion could be welcomed.

@PhSt Disregard the PhilStar article , it is owned by an oligarch with a political agenda, its a sensational article meant to embarrass Duterte, they are taunting him knowingly that the public perceive him as MACHO calling him a coward for not confronting China. So you're right its the start of campaign season for the Presidency and everybody is probing for any topic and weakness that they can exploit. The American influence will always be there whatever form from business , family and personal, what is needed is to let the American know that we are capable of critical thinking and adhere to the principle of an independent foreign policy. Slowly under Duterte the public had understand what its meaning and should follow our interest instead of others. The latest news is that the US had agreed on all of Duterte demand to reinstate the VFA, he had made the relationship with the US transactional instead of being subservient, so you may see a lot of US equipment arriving to strengthen the AFP. They may spin the news as a way of confronting China, but what I've heard which is important is that the Philippine will had control over the uses and deployment of those US asset deployed in depot across the country and need Philippine permission. So any US misadventure will be prevented.

You can't erase the American influence with one blow, you had to do it piece by piece, working with others instead of relying solely in America is the only solution.

Big implications with the new direction the US Marine Corps are taking with the new island hopping strategy. They would be playing whack-a-mole with China in case of warfare. They would put a Marine Littoral Regiment (MLR) to hop to an island put surface missiles, drones, SAM installations to form a basic A2/AD bubble.

Now imagine executing this operation with 10 MLR at the same time and also manoeuvrable so they can quickly hop to different islands depending on the tactical demands.

And i will also note that this strategy is highly compatible with some technologies like UAVs, unmanned ships, unmanned submarines, AI powered mines, swarm drones.

I predict a nightmare tactical situation for China if the USMC plans are fully realised

PLAMC should be planning going after them wherever they are.

It is about the military comparsion of China v US in Indo-pacific. Why should it involve US allies?
Exactly which allies are you talking I am not sure if Japan or Korea will get involved They can count of Australia, Britain and Canada but they are minnow as far as naval asset concern In the next decade even counting Japan and Korea Chinese navy will have the preponderance number of asset even the next 5 years you will have 50 destroyers, 50 frigates and 80 to 100 corvette plus 40 conventional sub, 3 or 4 carrier, 7 or 8 LPD , 4 or 5 LHD

Depends on which islands they are hopping, if its neutral countries islands and they bomb their way into establishing fob, it will backfire spectacularly

As long as China continues to play smart and continues to integrate ASEAN economies further with China their neutrality can be bought, thats why RCEP is a good start

All China needs to do is to drive down the point that any conflict in the scs will be started by the us as the agressor and if any of them take us sides it will be equal to their own economic suicide
