On 9 May 1997, the Philippine Navy's dilapidated tank landing ship BRP Sierra Madre (LT-57) ran aground on a reef near the Second Thomas Shoal in the Spratly Islands.

Was "May 9" the Philippines date...or China's ?
Why do you keep asking if the date is China's or the PH? Both countries have the same timezone when we're talking about HK, Guangzhou, Macau (Southern China) have the same timezone that of your country.

What's the significance and does it change the facts on the ground that it was the PH that decided to intentionally ground their ship (BRP SIERRA MADRE) in that disputed territory with China?

I have a suspicion the Philippine Gov-Military/MSM/NGOs aren't telling the truth about the date of the grounding.
