The notion China has no friends is because China chooses to play neutral not because no one likes China. I can argue that people only like the US in hopes to get money not because they share the same values. If the US and the West didn't control the world economy, their "friends" would drop away quickly. All you have to do ask the anti-immigration crowd what motivates immigration. Also colonialism plays a role where Western culture was taught to instill what should be valued. All you have to do is ask what regional friends other countries that neighbor China have? They have no friends either. They have none because Asians are notorious for petty nationalism. The only way they can be allies with someone in the region if they both hate in common. It's only the spin from Obama and others that makes it look like their friendship is based on similar values.
Obama's "free ride" label can be said the same of the US exploiting tension in Asia for it's own interests. They're angry at China for winning oil contracts in Iraq when the US spent all that money going to war? If China thought like Obama we would hear whining about how the US shouldn't exploit tensions between China and its neighbors. That's what it is. Same with how we hear all the whining about how China is the winner of tensions between Russia and the West. If they didn't want Russia getting closer to China then maybe they shouldn't have screwed with Russia. And the kicker is they wanted Russia to use against China. But some how they're mad at China helping out Russia by not going along with sanctions. And there's suspicion that what started in Ukraine was orchestrated to happen with the Russian Winter Olympics to embarrass Putin. And isn't it interesting that that's what happened during the Beijing Olympics.
