(ECNS) -- A shipping route between the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area (SCODA) in east China’s Shandong Province and Russia's port city of Vladivostok was officially launched Wednesday.
This is the first shipping route from the SCODA to Russia's Far East region.
A ship carrying 346 TEUs of cargo worth about $13 million, including daily necessities, machine parts and electronics departed from Qingdao Port and is scheduled to arrive in Vladivostok in four days.
The shipping route applies the sea-rail combined transport mode, which has the advantages of large capacity, timeliness and strong stability, said Zhu Zhe, president of the carrier company.
Compared with traditional railway transportation, this new mode can shorten transportation times by 10 days, said Zhu.
At present, the ship runs once a week, with a total of eight round-trips per month. In the future, it is planned to open two more routes, he added.
The SCODA plans to build an international super port to strengthen cooperation with manufacturers and traders from SCO members and along the Belt and Road, said Zang Yuanqi, who works for SCODA.
Located in Jiaozhou District in Qingdao, the demonstration area operates 17 international freight-train routes, reaching 51 cities in 22 countries, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization members and some along the Belt and Road.

The soy ratio in animal feed nationwide dropped last year to 15.3%, from 17.8% in 2017, the ministry said on Tuesday. That’s a cumulative saving of 11 million tons of meal, or 14 million tons of beans. Standout performers included farming giants Muyuan Foods Co., which lowered the ratio to just 6.9%, and New Hope Liuhe Co., which got it down to 10.7%.
