Alibaba just made one of the worst PR moves in history. Can't believe a 500+ billion dollar company can be this dumb and tone-deaf. I'm a man and I can't stand wokism and even I am appalled by their response. Ali's corporate culture is probably beyond saving now. Hope they go the way of Baidu soon.

edit:
For those who are not following Weibo, Alibaba just had 6,000 of their employees releasing an open letter on the "8.7 incident" in which they called the "8.7 incident" Alibaba's darkest hour. The alleged rape took place on 28th of July. 8.7 was when the alleged victim's accusation went viral on social media. We now know clearly what's their priority.

Oh, they also appropriated the slogan "girls help girls" and made it to "Ali-ren help Ali-ren". Seriously?
What would have been your preferred course of action for them to have made that's suitable in your position

Short term:
Ban alcohol from all business dinners (Chinese government is already doing this for government departments). Have a dedicated team and hotline for sexual harassment.

Long term:
Have a plan to balance the gender ratio in all its departments and on all levels of leadership. Vow to make sure, for example, that at least 40% of its software engineers are women by the end of the decade.

If I remember, I believe the long-term goal is already being strived for. They should be able to do it.

I think higher ups at Alibaba originally hoped to keep things under wrap and settle it out of court to not get media attention. Unfortunately for them it didn’t work out.

Also, I’ve underestimated SCMP. Looks like they have more journalistic integrity than the likes of Washington Post.

According to the female employees' account when she reported the rape to HR, she was told by the HR manager that he's going to hire less women in the future. If Alibaba wants a balanced workforce, its own HR is obviously not getting the message.

The man from Alibaba's client Jinan Hualian who's accused of sexual harassment/assault has made the statement denying any harassment or assault had taken place while admitting that there "certainly" were touching and hugging (I guess there were CCTV cameras in the room so he cannot really deny the touching and hugging). Unironically.

Chinese government must have a complete ban on alcohol at business dinners not just for government departments but also for all entites receiving public funding or government contracts. Too many people use alcohol as excuses to normalize terrible behaviors.

I know it's probably not breaking news per say but This is a brilliant interview with Barwick by Dumbrill on the continuing anti china propaganda, increasingly warmongering rhetoric and dangerous china bashing in Australia.

I know it's pretty long it for those who are very interested in the fuckery going on in Aus, it's very interesting and please do take time to hear it. I had put in in background three times in case I missed out on some details.

There are alot information that the mainstream media dun cover for reason we know. Even for someone like me with knowledge of the anti china climate by getting exposed to it everyday here, it's still very informative. I had argued with voyager in the past about the china response towards rising Australia antagonism, I think people curious about that can view this. The interview take awhile to get going with the first part mostly about Uyghur stuff and the second part the good stuff about aus shit houser.

Some notable things being mentioned

Xinjiang, EITM, ASPI,
Death by Thousand cuts of non stop china bashing.
The supposed sacrosanct Aussie US alliance.
Deputy sheriff in asia
Some of the big china bashers here. Palou, Hastie, Hatcher, Ruser.
ASIO the spy agency here.
The neocon Anglo
The juvenile anti china wolverines pack in aus parliament
The SAS connection

Forgot to mention.

The incident with palou dressed in hazmat suit in front of the Confucian institute.
Queen counsel working for palou pro bono
Anglo alliance UK US AUS. Andrew Jackson society
Ex military guys, hastie here, cotton in US etc.
Cold war objectives
Political influence charges and hypocrisy
Hilariously accusing china of hacking census data due to sun yang and Horton incident backlash
Parallels with Iraq war BS allegations
Effective anti China operation over past 5 years where anti China sentiment rose dramatically from about 40% to over 80.
The dangerous drive of warmongering could lead to scary conclusions and people mindlessly following it now

And alot more I have not written. I urge all who have interest in Aus to have a listen

Agreed

Disagree.

Merit should still be the key criteria for a jobs, particularly software engineering which is a more technical discipline and suits men more than women.

Plus from a societal point of view, society needs more well-paid jobs which are suited to men.

We are in the midst of a global phenomenon where there are significant numbers of women who complain that they can't find a partner who is more successful than they are. It's to be expected if you have significantly more women attending university than men.

If society can't get pairings to occur, then the birthrate is going to remain low.
