Police in Lhasa, Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region have apprehended a suspected murderer after the victim's corpse was found under the bed at a popular hotel where an unknowing tourist had slept on for three hours. The tourist's horrible ordeal has been circulated widely online during the May Day holidays.

The tourist, surnamed Zhang (pseudonym), confirmed online that he slept on the bed for three hours after he checked in the hotel on April 21 before he was changed to another room on the fourth floor due to the odor that permeated through the original room on the third floor, according to media reports.

Police told him on April 22 that the corpse of a female was found under the bed in the room on the third floor.

After Zhang's ordeal was denied by the hotel employees, he showed his hotel booking details and notes taken when he was interviewed by the police.

The victim, surnamed Wang, has been linked to a suspect surnamed Gao, who has been apprehended by police after he fled by train from Lhasa to Lanzhou in Northwest China's Gansu Province, police said.

Gao was caught by police in Lanzhou with the victim's ID card, iPhone and bank cards being discovered. The case has since been handed over to the police in Lhasa for further investigations. It has not been revealed by the police the exact date when the victim was murdered.

A netizen who claimed to be a family member of the victim said in an online statement that the victim did not know the suspect and questioned if the hotel had failed to fulfill its management responsibilities, according to media reports.

According to the statement, the victim was murdered elsewhere and her corpse was moved to the hotel room by the suspect. However, the hotel failed to detect anomalies in time and supposed that the victim had left the hotel without checking out. Her corpse was not found until her family members reported her being missing to the police.

Meanwhile, Zhang also attempted to seek compensations from the hotel with his travel agenda disrupted in addition to the trauma suffered by the incident. He said that he has been unable to fall sleep at night after the incident.

Zhang was told by the hotel manager that the hotel and the staff were also affected by the incident and the manager was cooperating with the police during investigations. The hotel has since suspended operation and the legal representative of the hotel will negotiate with Zhang over appropriate next steps.

When Zhang, who was on the first visit to Lhasa, first informed the hotel employees about the odor in the room, he was told it might be the smell from the bread store downstairs and only was re-arranged a new room for the second time of his complaint.

Zhang left Lhasa by air that day after he finished his interview with the police.

According to China's Civil Code, a consumer can file complaints to the market supervision department and ask for compensations from the hotel, or file a lawsuit for compensation, while the hotel can file civil compensations from the suspect, according to Dushi Kuaibao.

Zhou Jiangyong, former Party chief of Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang Province, is accused of taking advantage of his position to receive bribes, directly or through his relatives, totaling more than 193 million yuan ($28 million). The prosecutorial authority is seeking to hold Zhou criminally responsible for the crime of accepting bribery.

The People's Procuratorate in Chuzhou, East China's Anhui Province, revealed that over the past 20 years from 2001 to 2021, Zhou has been making use of his positions from a county head to Party chief of Hangzhou to provide assistance to relevant businesses and individuals in matters such as construction projects, contracting, land acquisition, among other commercial favors.

During the process, he had illegally received properties, directly or through his family, totaling more than 193 million yuan ($28 million) in equivalence.

During the trial, Zhou pleaded guilty in court. A verdict will be delivered at a later date.

Zhou was put under both disciplinary and supervisory investigations by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission in August 2021, and was expelled from the Party and public office for violating laws and disciplines in January 2022.

The CCDI said the former official ignored the spirit of the central government, colluded with the capital, and supported disorderly expansion of capital. He also violated rules by interfering in the market economy and engaging in corrupt activities with his family members.

China has been strengthening efforts to tackle corruption and other types of disciplinary violations. China's top anti-corruption watchdog has filed 138,000 cases and punished 111,000 individuals across the country in the first quarter of the year. Among them, one official was formerly ranked at the ministerial level, and 633 were at the bureau level.

A total of 1,881 Nazi badges have been seized by Chinese customs recently. The authorities warned that products related to Nazi are strictly prohibited for import and export in China.

Guangzhou Customs in South China's Guangdong Province discovered a total of nine different types of Nazi badges in mid-May, according to the report of Legal Daily, a newspaper affiliated to the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

According to the report, customs officers from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Customs detected an unusual X-ray image of a batch of outbound express items during their supervision, following risk control instructions.

The X-ray image revealed a large number of stacked metal items resembling Nazi badges. Upon further inspection, a significant quantity of metal badges, clearly displaying Nazi symbols, was discovered inside the package.

The badges encompassed various types, including caricatures of Hitler, the Nazi swastika symbol, and the emblem of the Nazi party, totaling 1,881 pieces.

Further actions have been taken by the customs authorities in response to this unusual case. The incident has also sparked discussions and conversations online.

"Which factory has no bottom line and dares to engage in any business just for the sake of making money?" a Chinese net user commented.

Customs authorities have emphasized that Nazi badges are strictly prohibited items for import and export. If these items are sent out of the country in violation of regulations, the customs will take appropriate actions in accordance with relevant laws. In instances where such violations constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued as per the law.
