J-15 carrying 2 PL-8 and 2 PL-12 -- a decent A2A loadout and one that should be able to be hauled off a ski jump while retaining good range.
PLANAF will be fortunate to start off with such a large and capable aircraft as their first carrier plane.

Nice pics (Yoursm too Assassins MAce). Nice to see some photos opf the J-15 being loaded out now with ordinance. Looking forward to the day when they begin trials on the carrier, and then later when she sails with a wing of J-15s aboard.

The J15 should be able to easily take off with maybe twice that number of AAMs and still have a very respectable range.

Even basic Su33s could manage to loft with a full AA load and good fuel reserves.

The J15 would have had all the weight (and RCS) saving composite structural refinements of the J11B, and using WS10A engines, which have more thrust than the AL31s used on the Su33 iirc, so it should be able to take off with a bigger load than the Su33.

Oh yes, certainly I wasn't saying that loadout would be the top end of the J-15's payload while keeping good range.

I think many pages back someone did some good calculations bringing in various AAMs, AShMs and fuel load with differing take off positions and found J-15 could still manage a decent range with YJ-82s and AAMs. I can't recall the details.

However, the loadout of 2 SRAAMs and 2 MRAAMs would probably be along the lines of a payload you'd expect for CAP.

Would be interesting to know, why prototype 551 has a "green" tail in comparison to 553 & 556 we know.

diffrerent coat of primer.
prob a full composite vertical tail.

They claimed they saved a bunch of weight by re-design the structure and use composites.

(btw, bunch of people on the internet and even some in the aerospace industry think composite = weight savings, wrong.
properly designed structure with accurate loads estimation save weight)
