Yes, but it features at least canards, a tail-hook + overall a different internal structure ... as such IMO a new number makes sense, but not for a simple pimped-up J-11BS ! As such also the combat-capable J-10AS and future BS should get a new name too.

Fair enough -- but J-10AS doesn't have any capabilities over the one seater J-10A, whereas J-16 has the extra dimension of A2G compared wth J-11B/BS.

If those pics do turn out to be J-16 it'll make differentiating between J-11BS and J-16 production much more difficult in future... though if we see a regiment of pure J-11BS we can probably guess they are J-16s.

How old is this picture? We seem to have a confirmation on J-11 AESA.milit203.jpg

Check the radar section. If you enlarge it with tools, the profile seems to be an AESA, especially if you compare it to other known AESAs. This also suggests that the J-10B ESA is a PESA, because of the radically different appearance of the J-11 AESA.

Inst, that pic is very misleading (and quite old, can't quote number of years, but a few at least).

If we're taking this pic seriously, then you'd expect J-11B and J-15 to be equipped with russian missiles. The smaller pics are simply meant to symbolize the type of systems that will be prevalent on the aircraft (that is, radar, engine, glass cockpit etc), not necessarily the exact system. I'm not even sure if this pic is official in any way, it could be fan made.

I think the radar in question is AESA, but not chinese. And for the sake of argument, even if that was a chinese aesa radar there's nothign stopping them to go with a new design. The fact that J-10B's radar has been described as AESA in a display along with by big shrimps etc should remove all doubt that it is indeed active.

very old, around 2-3 years perhaps?

i suspect it's a PS mishmash job, because the cutaway is an older Flanker variant, a legit/official one would not simply mix the old antenna radar with an AESA

edit : Blitzo beat me to it

you still needed official confirmation, particular from PLAAF .remember last year scandal over the picture over three guangdong 's bureacrat "visit" to a farm (?) the picture turn out to be a P.S.
and about the video that appear in CCTV about PLAAF mock dogfight, BBC claim that the some of the image stolen from the tom crtuise's movie "Top Gun"!!!!!

I see that before,,from the 2004 zhuhai airshow.it was mechanical radar not PAR.
this is a P.S. job!

Gee people actually believe that old graph? I mean, at least come up with something like what I've posted at CDF. :confused:10_19830_9a4b67510f55d1f.jpg

That's not the confirmation. The real proof came when Lei Qiang announced that the J-15 and J-11B were to incorporate AESA.

That would be the J-15, I am assuming. Simply because I can see the canards on it.

Also, what is the current update on China's TVC technology on the WS-10 engines?
