Ah thanks

But if the D=EW then why J11D ? That is not a EW aircraft ?

The J-11D's "D" and J-16D's "D" denote different things.

The "J-16D" is not an official designation, it's one given by PLA-watchers. The PLA themselves usually change the prefix of their designations to denote special missions, e.g. JZ-8F instead of J-8ZF. Therefore, the official designation given to the "J-16D" when it enters service will probably be something like JD-16.

The "J-11D", while technically also an enthusiast-given name, is much more likely to be the final designation because it follows all precedence set by the PLA.

Perfect !

So to summarise the Flankers we have

J16 which is now most likely into batch 3 production in 2017 should see deliverys to subsequent regiments next year

J16D EW varient currently 2 prototypes

J11D which was a slow moving project now seems like production units for batch 1 are now being delivered maybe next year to regiments

Question is if J11D is now ready they still bought Su-35? Strange one

Think J ("歼") as the basic mission designation, Z ("侦") as modified mission designation. The relationship between JZ-8 and J-8 is analogous as that of RF-4 and F-4. HY-6 and JJ-7 also follows this rule.

JD-16 is a conceivable designation. However, the current PLAAF EW aircraft (Y-8 GX, Tu-154) have never carried the D ("电") designation. It is hard to tell what it is going to be.

According to some rumors, the airframe refinements made to the Su-35 are far more advanced than that of the J-11D prototype back in 2015. The Su-35s were bought because of their greater kinematic performance and range as well as possible DACT roles.

SU-35 has greater thrust and 3D OVT, hence its greater Kinematic performance.

It initially wore canards to enhance pitch performance as well, but those were eliminated as un-necessary as they did little to further enhance pitch performance, and they increased empty weight due to their need for supporting structure, actuators, as well as their actual weight and drag

According to people in the know, it's not just TVC and thrust that allow the Su-35 to exceed the performance of other Flanker models, it's also various software improvements that were implemented for its flight-control system, and it's the software that SAC is really interested in deciphering.

The Su-35's TVC is also not true 3D, it's a 2D-vectoring slanted on a 'V' trajectory so that at maximum deflection by both nozzles, there will be a net horizontal thrust, as below.
