Just in regard to the J-11D ... are there any recent news ??? A prototype was reportedly ready to be unveiled already some time ago ... and even more what's about with the missing J-11C ???

No, the J-11B - even if some fan-boys claimed it to have an AESA - always featured the Type 1493 radar. Quite interesting, older sources often spoke of a Type 1474 !

Any news on the status of the J-16s? Last I heard, about 24 of them had entered service but that was one time ago.

Anyone noticed the wingtip pylons on the J-11 on the left ??

It's no longer the typical J-11B wingtip pylon for the PL-8 but the old and new Su-27SK and J-16 pylon for the R-73 and also the latest PL-10 ... so what J-11 is this ???

"Fong-Bu-Bei" said the prototype J-11D is a modified J-11B. And it is rumored that all servicing J-11B will be upgraded to J-11D which equipped with the same avionics including radar, communication, EW, and flight control system as J-16. It implies that structure-enhanced J-11D can launch new weapons such as YJ-12 ASM.

Wow, this timing is uncanny.

There is a rumor that the J-11D prototype flew today (according to the same rumors it features AESA radar, 14-ton WS-10G engines, and structural upgrades).
