I don't take anyone seriously who thinks that automation will solve demographic crisis.

2020 TFR 1.3 (lower than Japan) and the births still decreasing according to different cities and provincial demographics statistics in 2021. If TFR goes under 1.0 the problem should be treated like a war.

And I agree with higher posts that China should aim at least for 2.1 TFR. Even with 2.1 TFR Chinese population might decrease in the longer term because there is more women than men. 2020 census 110 babies men for 100 babies women.

Your reasoning is so flawed, it's sad.

You calling this forum an echo chamber when you yourself is here engaging in discussion tells me that you've slipped up.
And why this fascination with Think Tanks? US think tanks are one of the epitome of echo chambers. Next time don't make sweeping generalizations with phases like "NO Chinese", "ALL Chinese " etc.
Should have said pro China circles instead of echo chamber because every online community is an echo chamber nowadays. I keep referring to think tanks because the root of this whole conversation is because of Yi Fuxian speaking at a think tank and you making a remark about how China is so open to criticism now.

Well, I am one of the people who thinks automation can alleviate some of the pain caused by demographics. It certainly can't solve demographic crisis.
For a middle income country, Automation can be of great impact. It would lead to improvements in productivity and efficiency. I'm concerned only for the increasing age of the population.

@Bob Smith i don't think I've made such a remark. Although I have opinioned that Chinese government is more open to criticism than US government.

I mean, you could solve the TFR issue by including it into the KPIs. I will always trust local officials to find a solution to something if it means that their carreers can be protected and promoted

Or you could ban condoms and be done with it.
It is an extremely unethical measure, but when at war, everything is tolerated

It would generate results in the rural regions. But the incentives and effort required for developed urban regions would be high.

How best to explain this? Automation is kind of like your alts, tidalwave. It might appear as though several people are needed to do a certain job - just like it might appear that your alts are different people - but it's really only one person. The difference is that automation is used to do useful work, while in your case I have never once heard a useful thing come out of any of your mouths in all my time here.

Why do you never have anything useful to say, tidalwave? All you do is waste our time. If your alts were actual people they would double China's population overnight, and not once has any of them ever said anything worthwhile even by accident.

Who is Tidalwave? Back to demographics. I have nothing to do with that man.

I think China's system of government with socialism makes them better prepared for a more automated future. But here in the west if you don't work you will not have that much money to consume. Without demand the investment into automatization cant be financed, if automation was that good already the US would have done it right now with all the labor shortages they are having going as far as allowing back certain forms of child labor.

A centralized government with dynamic decision making can bring in lots of progress. Just like the EV revolution, China can create subsidies for domestic robot manufacturers. Also, china can sell to outside world, right? Automation will help in retaining the manufacturing capacity within the country and stave off competition from SE Asia.

Per capita wise, the number of robots per citizen in China is very low (when compared to SK or Japan or Germany). That means there is a long way to go and lot of progress to be made.

However, a stagnation or dwindling in the tax paying working class can only be offset by rising wages or incomes and more spending. It's a precarious situation.

Per capita yes. But China's huge population is masking how freaking huge is the turn towards automation in China. And how much they are leading the rest of the world in automating manufacturing
