They mentioned one of the complication of hypersonic vehicle separation is shockwave interference. Well the Teng Yun project publicly demonstrated it with a free flow separation test in hypersonic wind tunnel. This whole thing maybe a more complete test, real flight with control system.

Though Teng Yun TSTO is not supposed to separate at really high Mach number, more like M5 to M10. Right at the speed limit of it's air-breathing engine (RBCC/TBCC). Definitely not at Mach 20.
Not even half of Tengyun will be complete with this test. Tengyun should also be able to takeoff, climb to 100 km or so and then the Second stage rocket with the payload would take to orbit.

This test would contribute to the reentry and descend portion of Tengyun project/program ( if at all it is a TSTO related test).

Well I said "more complete test", not "complete test". IE a aerodynamic test with control system. Obviously a complete Teng Yun requires working TBCC/RBCC, which is really the holy grail of aerospace industry.

Come to think of it, Teng Yun separation test only needs to be suborbital considering the speed requirement.

Also Teng Yun does not need to do re-entry test because the carrier vehicle does not go into orbit in the first place, the second stage does.

So Teng Yun theory has problem too....

Indeed right, 'reentry' isn't a thing here just the descend part. But then it was China who insisted it is a spaceplane.

Tengyun has TBCC propulsion.

Descend also doesn't require orbital test, they could just stick it onto a small sub-orbital booster, much cheaper then using a LM rocket.

Just saying this test does not look all that consistent with what Teng Yun project needs.

I thought Descend did ( if it is a powered one). Unlike the shuttle, since it doesn't have the energy after reentry, it would have to gain it to maneuver and reach back to the landing port. Wouldn't sufficient Mach numbers have to be gained ( Mach 4 >) to start the ramjet. Both range and altitude would be required for that.

Not necessarily, If Teng Yun is powered by TBCC they just need to slow it down to supersonic then use turbo engine to get it back home.

Edit: Also if they need to test anything at Mach 4 they can use cheap small solid rocket to do a sub-orbital test.

Depends on what systems they developed and would want to test. Ramjet and scramjet can be tested.

Anyway, all this is IF it is part of a Spaceplane development project.

Ramjet or scramjet can all be tested with a small solid booster, they only need it to get to about Mach 4 plus. Using LM rocket is overkill.

Yeah it's all wild guess at this point, just shooting the breeze here...

I don't think anybody knows what LM series rocket was used. I am not knowledgeable on variety of rockets but I've been asking about it in other threads ( to no avail).
