(defensa.com) Argentina might be interested in acquiring more Russian-made helicopters Mil Mi-171E as the two acquired in 2011 and are used primarily to support the operations of the Argentine Ministry of Defense in Antarctica. In any case the purchase would depend on the financial conditions that could negotiate with Russia.

They have communicated, according to Russian media, Argentine Defense Minister Agustin Rossi, during the visit he made last January 16 Russian polar ship Vasily Golovnin before he left to start the Antarctic Summer Campaign 2014 2015, in which 1,500 troops of the Argentine Armed Forces participate. The event was attended also by the Minister, the Secretary of Science, Technology and Defence Production, Santiago Rodríguez, the director general of the Defense Logistics Service, Lucia Kersul and Russian ambassador to Argentina, Victor Koronelli. The vessel was stocked in Buenos Aires as pre-departure to supply materials to 13 Argentine Antarctic bases.

The Kfir jets Colombia Air Force ground again by accident last December 31

dscn1883.jpg

(defensa.com) After the last crash of an airplane IAI Kfir C10 in the FAC, on December 31, six miles from the Air Combat Command No. 1 when performing maneuvers approach, the Air Force has decided Colombia to keep its entire fleet of fighters of this aircraft on the ground as a precaution against the risks of their operation.

Initial investigations indicate that the Kfir C10 enrollment 3041, suffered a "Flameout" (off sudden engine) and its pilot, given the low altitude, low speed bearing and minimum chance to rekindle the engine under these conditions, decided practice protocols for ejection.

Early research also discard any BASH (Bird air strike hazard), commonly known as a security incident in flight with some kind of bird. The revisions for the time you have made to the engine intake discarded birds and lack of clarity about the causes of "Flameout" J79-GE engine J1EQD could be taken to the premises of the company in Israel IAI LAHAV who performs maintenance and repair of these motors to kfir FAC aircraft.

This is the fourth FAC Kfir aircraft suffered an accident due to problems with its engine, recalling that the first three were seater Kfir TC12, and the latter is the Kfir C10 version, repowering by Israeli companies.

It has also been established that, to the chagrin of the high command of the FAC and especially pilots manning these aircraft, the Ministry of Defence would be exploring the possibility of seeking a new company to provide the necessary maintenance and, above all, solve the ongoing problem that is presenting the J79-GE J1EQD, US-made engine and that caused four accidents that claimed the life of a pilot and a huge detriment to the Colombian patrimonial state, the defense portfolio has not been delivered so far for unknown reasons.

The Uruguayan Air Force denies any interest in the F-5 deprogrammed by Saudi Arabia to certain technical problems in some of the Swiss appliances

999u.jpg

(defensa.com) Although Brazilian media have emphasized the possibility that Uruguay eventually desist from his interest in the 10 F-5 Swiss modernized by Ruag negotiated so far, because two major Swiss car gadgets cracks were found (and notice thereof) in the junction of the wings to the fuselage, the FAU considered as plausible behavior of the authorities of the European military aviation, warning of the problem and move the talks, which perhaps could be closed in mid-year, once diagnosed and resolved the difficulty-if it be this way as expected.

In the journalistic suggestion made in some media in Brazil, in the sense that the FAU could not possibly wait until the issue of those cracks ascertain in aircraft and opted why recently deprogrammed Saudi Arabia (70 F-5) which go on sale in a month, the same official spokesmen stated that there would be interest in these devices. "We do not want any F-5, F-5 but certain, very well maintained and liable to be updated," said a military source. In this regard, the Ruag firm, which also proposes to modernize, Uruguay appears to offer significant guarantees, while recognizing the virtues, for example, the Brazilian project developed between Embraer and AEL as the main subcontractor.

The Uruguayan Air Force evaluates the F-5, various proposals, since late 1983, although its execution is slowed down due to budget shortfalls.

Simultaneously, the other vector fighter FAU, which, like the A-37B, needs to be urgently replaced by lack of spare parts and technological continuity manufacturer (with a more unstable inner reality) is the Argentine A-58 Pucara whose Astazou engines are no longer manufactured, and their coverage also difficult to supplant plexiglass, among other conflicting items at the time of maintenance. In this aspect, although it would have longer terms, according to several observers, the project's chances-theoretical, for now might be, eventually, the Korean KT-1, less expensive than the Embraer Super Tucano, although designed by one of its designers without the maintenance issues presented in certain versions of the Beechcraft aT-6 II.

This seems like it should also be in the UK Military news, eh?

The Falkland's are administered by the UK, and the SAR function spoken of was being done by the RAF and now is reverting to a military contractor that will be working for the UK.
